Mediterranean grill OCTO — Restaurant in Nakijin

I read with great interest that Octo is the best Mediterranean restaurant in Okinawa. Honestly, we travel a lot and it's probably the best restaurant we've been in ages. The food is spectacular, plated beautifully and as fresh as ingredients get. The bread is even amazingly good...but most important, the staff is second to none...they are on the spot with kindness and care. You really will miss one of the best restaurants in Japan, let alone Okinawa if you don't go to Octo. The view is incredible....and we were lucky enough to see the 20th year celebration of their bridge in fabulous fireworks. Try the pasta dishes (they are all good, but the spicy was my favorite) and start with an appetizer like the caprese....and finish your meal with the Tiramisu. Enjoy....

The food here was good for Italian in Okinawa, but unfortunately the service really missed the mark. From the moment we walked in, one of the waiters seemed disengaged and focused almost entirely on two other tables, leaving us waiting and feeling overlooked throughout the night. When it finally came time to pay, he didn’t speak a word — something very unusual compared to the warm hospitality I’ve consistently experienced at other restaurants on the island. We ordered three dishes, but the pasta didn’t come out even after an hour. When we asked about it, they said the order hadn’t been placed but they didn’t apologize. On top of that, when I raised my hand to ask when the pasta would be ready, the staff told me to wait a moment, but didn’t come back for about five minutes. They just kept polishing dishes in the meantime…

Next, they served us bread and goat cheese as a starter. We didn't order it but they charged us 500 yen without telling us. Also, we asked if we could get a refill of the cheese for free, and they said yes, but then they charged us 500 yen each, totaling 1,000 yen.

To make matters worse, they only gave us the drink menu at first and told us that we had to order drinks. We ended up paying 8,100 yen for two people. The food was bland, and the staff was impolite. This experience gave me a bad impression of Okinawa.
