Uokuni is a restaurant offering a menu of beautifully-presented Japanese seafood dishes. To start, we had the Baby Sardine & Radish Salad, which came with chopped lettuce and tomatoes topped with a huge mountain of grated radish topped with baby sardines in a savory, acidic dressing. There were a number of set meals on the menu as well, which came with rice, miso soup, and tsukemono, along with a choice of entree. The Yakizakana & Sashimi Gozen came in two parts. First came a plate of fresh sashimi of three different white fish, along with the skeleton and head of a raw fish as decoration! Second came a whole snapper (the “catch of the day”) scored and grilled over coals on a skewer. I also tried the poached version, in which the whole fish was cooked in a savory sweetened dashi sauce (though the sauce was overpoweringly salty for my taste). But my favorite fish dish was the Saba no Miso, or mackerel poached in a sweetened miso sauce along with tofu, burdock, and spinach. Most visitors are from overseas that expect to enjoy the food and to anticipate great hospitality. It is pity that this place fails to maintain great service to tourists. If you wish to dine there, I got two words for you, “Good Luck!!”. To the manager, next time if you want to inform your customers, please ask them nicely....
