Probably the most underwhelming and disappointing part of our visit to Japan.

My mother and I had stopped here because we wanted to try the all the local restaurants aside from our usual across the street.

We were greeted by the hostess who offered us hot towels, and then a gentleman with glasses (whom I presume is the manager on duty) who took our initial order. I had asked for two hot green teas (which...is the norm) only to be sent a single iced tea. His disposition seemed to be annoyed from the start and displayed an overall attitude that I wouldn't have expected from Japan's usual hospitality. Again because I was traveling with my mother... We had ordered the miso soup with clams (which contained three bottleneck clams as opposed to the entire bowl full across the street), the shellfish daily sashimi and the oysters. We were uncomfortable with the overall experience and decided to leave for our usual restaurant. Upon asking for the bill, I realized that I was charged for the three cups of regular tea..which usually is not the norm. When I questioned the charge, he was defiant and dismissive. Condescending to an extent. I paid and left, because tourist life 👌💔🤯

Shout out: There was an exceptional young man who took our second order and displayed the usual Japanese hospitality. He took great lengths to understand us and really did convey the service standard 🙏

Tl;dr if you wish to pay for tea and an overall disappointing experience of...

This is the first time in my life I was disappointed in kaisendon.

First, it's super overpriced. And they charge 200 yen on top. Usually you can get a nice kaisendon with many types of seafood for 1000-1200 yen but here its like starting from 1800 yen and it has only 3 types of fish. I mean it's Odawara ...inaka.

Second, the fish didn't look freshly cut. It was fresh and safe to eat, no issues. But looked like it has been cut in the morning. Not before serving... But these are my impressions, I don't know for sure.

Third, rice was dry and not sticky at slightest.

Also, on their site it's written they close at 9 and last order is 8:30. But it was closing at 8.

PS staff is nice and polite, but food isn't...

Very Excellent Fresh Fish Sashimi on Rice. Very very delicious & Good High Quality sashimi fish. The Price of the Fresh Sashimi is very good price, it is fresh fish price so please don't complaint it's expensive when you come here. Compared to Restaurants in Oversea, this would have easily cost you CAD$30 or more. No English Menu (Use globally work, point to picture hand sign). Japanese Servers speaks little English (Please be understandable, use basic English words). Local Know Only Hidden Gem Sashimi Place. Please Come Visit this place when you are in Odawara....

They have moved to a slightly different location. The new location has a lot more seating, but the servings seem to have shrunk a little. The fish is still fresh and tasty and the don (rice bowls) are still generally good value. I also ordered the two types of kakiage, the shrimp and also the baby sardine (more like baby anchovies), they were a bit oily, and the serves of seafood within the kakiage is a bit sparce, mostly tempura batter and some onion.
