Japanese Ramen Guriko Okayama — Restaurant in Okayama

It seems that Okayama city has many interesting eateries yet to be explored, each had an interesting shop front design with their own unique style and character.

While exploring the town area of Okayama city after dinner yesterday, we were tempted by Wamen Guriko, a modern contemporary designed ramen shop.

It’s a vending machine style ramen shop where you select and pay for your choice of ramen once you enter via a vending machine, and you’ll be given a ticket for your selection before making your way to your seats.

For myself, I selected the special sea bream shio ramen which came with a generous portion of cha shu and ajitama.

It looked very unassuming at first, with its almost transparent clear broth but was packed full of flavour, tantalising the tastebuds while leaving a light sweet aftertaste without the overwhelming richness in your mouth.

The Cha Shu had an elegant charred aroma which leaves me craving for more. The egg white of the ajitama was perfectly coddled to jiggly perfection while cradling the velvety smooth liquid yolk.

But the star of the show was definitely the noodles for me, which was made from Hokkaido wheat.

Unlike other conventional ramen shops whose noodles usually are yellow and have a more soft chewy texture, the ones used by Wamen Guriko had a creamier hue and with a refreshing firm “bite” or texture which was an exhilarating change that I love.

The meal was so good that we even went back the following night to try other items on the menu which turned out excellent as well. Definitely the best ramen I have...

和モダンな外観がお洒落でスタイリッシュな店構え。

店内は、カウンター席が中心で、テーブルも３つほどありました。

私が伺った時はほとんどが男性客でしたが、清潔感とお洒落さがある店内なので女性でも入りやすそうです。
