For anyone doing the islands Shimanami Kaido bicycle route during the day, this is a great place to stop for lunch. It's right on the corner of the village pedestrian area (one of the few you'll pass on this route). The restaurant has a friendly and warm staff, and even though they don't speak much English they are super helpful and welcoming. The ticket dispensing machine has pictures of everything you might want to order (bento meals, with soup, noodles, ramen, etc) and all is Y700 or less in price. They also have Oden (tofu, radishes, eggs) boiling on a stove that you can select for Y50 a piece. And great Y200 ice cream to finish it off. Nice people, and a nice place. Read moreWas so ravenous at the middle of my Shimanami Kaido ride that I forget to snap a pic before I devoured half my curry. This shop is so cheap given how big the portions are. The taste is just normal but it def hits the spot for when you want a nice, quick hearty meal. Conveniently located next to the temple too. You just order by machine so it’s easy to simply look at the pics instead of having to ask “what’s this” constantly to a waiter. Food came out super quick and drinks are free. The broth kicks off with a gentle aroma of chicken oil, laying a warm, fatty base. That’s quickly layered by a wave of seafood sweetness, punctuated with savoury notes from the shoyu. Floating just above it all is the sour brightness of lemon—clean but sharp.
