Senkotei — Restaurant in Onomichi

We stopped here after a long and rainy mountain hike, so we were exhausted. Conveniently located next to the ropeway. Based on the location we expected it to be packed but we were the only people there. A lovely old lady is managing this restaurant and she cooked our ramen right in front of us at the counter. We never had onomichi ramen nor authentic japanese ramen in general so this was our first experience of it. The broth was nice and salty and the fat on the top of the ramen melted in our mouth. The meat in it was a little bit smoky and tender. Overall we had a pleasant experience here!

The vibe of this small and retro restaurant and the overall kindness of the owner (and the ramen of course) warmed us up 😊

To be honest sometimes we still talk about this place and would like to eat here again 😌

To people who are worried about the cleanliness: we came from central-eastern Europe, this is considered great here and trust me when I say this, when we stepped in and saw the interior we knew that this place will serve great home...

Tasty Onomichi Ramen made by a lovely woman. There even was an English menu. The place feels like a time capsule of the past, which adds to the charm. It is conveniently located by the Senkojiyama ropeway, which makes it an easy stop.

ドライブの際利用させてもらいました。

尾道ラーメンをいただきました。

スープは背脂の浮いた優しい(薄めの)醤油スープでした。

麺は中細で柔らかめの茹で加減で優しいスープに合っていました。

気になったのはプラスチックの受け皿にラーメン丼が乗っていたのですが。。

そこにカーペットの滑り止めの様な網状のものが敷いてあり、それが黒カビか何かでかなり汚れていてさらにスープがこぼれていて気持ちわるかったです。

テーブルを拭く手間が増えるかも知れませんが受け皿は無しでいいと思います。

セットのチャーハンはチャーシューの端っこやミックスベジタブルの入った手作りだったのですが豚の臭みがかなり効いて完食しましたがきつかったです。

ロープウェイの上り口にあるお店で立地は良いと思いますので全体的に料理に関しては余計な物を引き算すればいいと思いました。
