2.5/5 -- Not an enjoyable sushi experience.
This restaurant allows smoking (would not have gone had I known). Be prepared to be assertive when ordering, or the waiters will not notice you.
I ordered two pieces of maguro nigiri -- the fish was cut thick as others have mentioned, but had an unappealing texture (what I can only describe as "bumpy and wet") and quite a bit of chew to it. As big of a tuna fan as I am, I can't find anything good to say about this dish.
Others in our group ordered salmon nigiri and tekka maki, which were decent. In general, I felt the sushi we were served was sloppily prepared; the dish on which they were served resembled more of a cutting board considering the wet, colored residue that remained on the surface. Being close to the smoking area, and disappointed by the quality, we paid and left after ordering only 3 plates between the 4 of us.
Overall, I feel our experience may have not have been reflective of the full potential of this restaurant. It is a popular spot for locals, and the with the exception of the maguro the quality of fish seems to be okay. While I will not make a return trip, your mileage may vary. There are other sushi spots to try out on this...
Read moreSix years ago this was the best sushi we had in Japan and we have been dreaming about coming back ever since. Today was the day! We (family of 5 from Amsterdam, The Netherlands) queued happily for an hour. Unfortunately our experience was disappointing this time. 😔 We had to wait for over an hour for the second half of our order. We gently reminded the staff 3 times. Eventually the table next to us seemed to get our order. They looked surprised, but ate it. We then waited 10 more minutes, but our kids really couldn’t wait any longer. We started in the queue at 5pm, had a table at 6pm. The first part of our order came at 6.30pm. We decided to leave at 7.50pm. It is really a shame as we were so excited to...
Read moreHarukoma Shiten is located on the famous Tenjinbashisuji shopping street, and it was a delightful experience. The surrounding area is bustling with activity, making it fun to take a leisurely walk. Upon arriving, there was a line to get into the restaurant, but we arrived at 4 pm, so the wait was pleasantly short, just 15 minutes.
The restaurant's menu offers a wide selection of sushi, and I was impressed by the generous portion sizes. What truly stood out was the unbelievably inexpensive prices compared to what I'm used to in the US. The best part of the meal was the superior quality of the sushi. Each bite was a slice of heaven. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious high...
