Okay, let’s start with the good. I read an earlier reviewer referring to this as a “hole-in-the-wall restaurant”. It is nothing of the sort. It is a spacious restaurant with an outside area at the front. I thought to myself as I sat inside that this restaurant could be anywhere in the world, with only the dual language menu giving away the country of its location. It is delightfully furnished with a sort of a bric-a-brac shop feel.
The server on the night was efficient and welcoming, but she had her work cut out for her. Getting her attention was sometimes difficult, but that is not a criticism of her - she never stopped.
I had the pickle plate, and to be fair it was exactly as described on the menu. It would have benefited from the addition of bread or crackers. I had the chicken and vegetarian tacos. The veggie one was good… the chook outstanding. I would return for this dish alone. Drinks were very reasonably priced.

The evening took an extraordinary turn when the owner, a skilled movie director, invited us to his private cinema. We were treated to his Japanese film about the Yakuza, an edgy, raw narrative that was as authentic as it was gripping. The movie captivated us with its deep dive into the complexities of its characters and their lives, providing a raw glimpse into a side of Japan seldom seen by outsiders.
