We looked up reviews for this place and were shocked how completely tricked we were.
Over 4k reviews and almost 4 stars?! We were sold. We walked in and there was a number system and quite a few people waiting, all of which looked like Japanese locals. We thought we were going to have some great cheap sushi, as we really haven’t had anything close to bad sushi in Japan.
There is zero communication with the staff, you don’t see any sushi chefs making the food in front of you, and the food quality is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Like worse than the worst sushi back home in California. My boyfriend ordered the xl unagi nigiri and literally spit it out immediately on his plate. We do not like to be rude like this ever, but he honestly had an uncontrollable reaction to putting this food in his mouth. It was all fat and completely cold. The unagi is supposed to be freshly seared (and it took so long that we assumed it was being made as so). Every piece of salmon I had was fishy. I could not finish two small pieces of nigiri because I was getting nauseous.
We were hoping the saving grace would be having some beer and sake, but we were also wrong about that as well. The drinks not only took longer to come out than the sushi, but they came to the table to tell us there was no more sake. We tried to just stick it out and have a good time but our dinner was honestly ruined beyond repair.
After pilling all the uneaten, borderline spoiled sushi on one plate so we could place the sushi plates in the dispenser to count, we decided to just pay and get out.
We printed the check quickly and didn’t think to check the bill at first. It was not possible to check it after we printed it because it was in Japanese and the translation app wasn’t translating it properly. But I’m willing to bet the sake that they ran out of was still on our bill. I would’ve tried to ask someone but nearly everything was automated, including the checkout. The bill was obviously pretty cheap but it really sucks to have to pay for food that is inedible.
TLDR; this sushi is cheap but HORRIBLE! DO NOT BE FOOLED BY REVIEWS. I do not understand how people were actually eating this food. It’s a disgrace to Japanese food. Hopefully we don’t get...
Read moreKura Sushi is a good place to have conveyor belt sushi because not only do you get to try this Osaka famous experience (it was invented in Osaka, I believe!), but with every 5 plates you consume, you get a chance to win a gashapon! The sushi itself is below-average compared to what you can get in other sushi restaurants, but considering the price and the experience, it's reasonable. We paid about ¥2800 for 2 people and we were stuffed at the end of it.
The menu is available on a tablet in a few languages, including English and Chinese, which is helpful. However, aside from that, there isn't much instruction for things like where to get utensils, how to mix tea, or even how to open the covers on the plates coming around. The servers aren't really equipped to answer any questions in a foreign language, which is understandable, but when asked, they'll do their best to help. In terms of food, there's nothing in particular that I'd recommend - perhaps the grilled eel and soft-boiled egg nigiri? - but it's cheap enough and the portions small enough for you to order anything that piques your interest.
If you're looking for a cheap conveyor-belt experience, I'd recommend Kura Sushi. It's not the best sushi you'll have, but you'll get to try a good variety for not a lot of money. Personally, I'll go back just to try my hand at...
Read moreAlright folks, where do I begin. This is a cheap sushi chain that offers 100 and up yen sushi, some are amazing some are just okay - you pay for what you get!
So how it works is, at your table or booth. There is the belt and also your personalized screen where you can order items off the menu. Either sushi pieces that you rather have them send directly to you or even a bowl of udon or ramen or ice cream or bing su, you get the drift! You can order a wide variety of items!
So for me, there were some pieces that were so cheap and just so friggin amazing! Like scallop- it was thick cuts and very fresh and absolutely finger licking good! Other things that were surprisingly delicious include grilled sushi items- grilled pork with cheese! I have no idea what sauce they use on this but wow it's amazing!!! Not sure if it was that day or something but the cut of tuna belly was only okay, I was hopping for something better - but that's okay it was only 100 yen. Other favorites included the grilled salmon belly- like wow! They work magic with their blow torches!
Would definitely return, it's cheap and delicious. So why not give it a shot and you can eat as little or as much as you want! Every five dishes you play a game - but make sure to initiate game prior to sitting down!! You could win a small prize from those coin...
