As a vegan for 11+ years, Veggie Table was one of the best meals I've had in my life. I shared 3 entrees, and 3 desserts... Wanted to try as much as possible! Everything was absolutely delicious and made with love. For example, when Chef Rick brought out his Chili, he said it was inspired by sweet memories of his mother. Aside from everything tasting incredible, another one of my favorite things was how he described the dishes as he set each down, naming vegetables / where they were sourced, as well as techniques used. It was so genuinely cool to have a Chef provide brief detail (with so much passion!) when presenting each plate and I loved every second of it. He seems like a wonderful soul, optimistic and filled with immense gratitude... SUCH a sweetheart. Loves his family and loves to cook. And... is really great at it 😁
Traveling as a vegan in Japan (without being bi-lingual) has been an adventure. It was a wonderful gift to find this restaurant. If you're local and have access to this place.... My goodness, you're fortunate. If you're traveling, vegan or not, whole-heartedly recommend.
The empty reviews with 1 or 2 stars.... No idea what this is about.. I don't know Chef Rick or his sweet family (wife and newborn daughter he speaks so highly of); I only know that everything he cooked was made with passion, beautiful technique, and love....
Read moreAfter all these years, there is finally a full-fledged vegan restaurant in Sendai that is out-of-this-world delicious.
I came here twice during my most recent trip to Sendai. Both times were incredible in terms of the amazing food that Chef Rick prepares.
To start, we tried their homemade bread and cornbread. I haven't had cornbread in years since they're often not vegan in the States. Boy was it truly a treat to be able to enjoy this and it was fluffy and delicious.
For the mains, I got to try all three of their spring collection of pasta, Thai Stir-Fried Tofu and Rice, and the Portobello Mushroom Steak. Each of these dishes were prepared with such thought to taste and presentation that I couldn't believe was coming from a restaurant in Sendai. The steak was piping hot and juicy, and the rice dish was hearty with a variety of flavors and textures.
We also can't forget about dessert. Their tiramisu was light and sweet, and you could get it with or without alcohol.
Chef Rick and the team have really created something great here in the City of Trees, and I'm so glad to be able to return to my former home and have somewhere like The Veggie Table to rely on for a fantastic...
Read moreChef Rick is as passionate as they come. We loved talking to him about his culinary experience from both America and Japan. I thought it was interesting that he even worked on a farm for a few years to see exactly how and where his ingredients are produced. All of his hard work has paid off as his dishes are unbelievably fresh and flavorful.
My favorite was his chili, which he told us was inspired by a funny story involving a similar dish his mother made growing up. We ended up ordering all three entries, which all complimented each other perfectly! Also, the Carrot Cake and Lemon Berry Cake were unbelievable. You absolutely must have desert here!
Long story short, if you are interested in delicious, fresh, and creative vegan food, which is pretty hard to find in Japan, you will not be disappointed with the food and energy at The...
