We were looking forward to Brutto after a recommendation but it didn’t live up to expectations. It’s a very Japanized style of Italian. Ordered beer and got half a small glass for ¥950 and all the following wines were average and poorly matched. The food was ok, the antipasto combination had a few nice things but they screwed up the tempura dish and the sashimi was a little strong (see what I mean about more Japanese than Italian). The primo dish of bolognese was prepared in front of us down to the pasta maker and slicing - but then they way overcooked the spaghetti making it soft and mushy. The wine recommended for this dish would be ok for a summers day outside drinking wine and eating mild cheese but not for a strong flavorful ragu. Oh and it was at this time we noticed the chef using the same spoon to try things over and over again - and putting in a jar rather than cleaned - and then used again for another tasting. Not hygienic. Meat dishes were passable, but with such a stunning teppanyaki there is no excuse for serving pork with a floppy fatty outer when that can be crisped up perfectly. Like many chefs here the focus is making the meat interior perfect and forgetting the rest. The wine here was a bland Italian cab sav when I had asked for something bolder - there are a dozen Italian grapes that would be more suitable. Finally, the veggies were floppy and greasy probably because the chef squirts too much oil on the grill and doesn’t let it warm up before throwing on the sliced veggies. Dolce was ok, but not I expected with shaved ice on coconut panna cotta....
