If I could give 8 stars, I would. Since I can’t, here are 8 reasons why TRUNK(HOTEL) Yoyogi is absolutely exceptional:
The staff. Unparalleled attentiveness and kindness, from the first email before arrival to our stay. Clear explanations, seamless bilingual communication, and constant availability. Everyone was so nice and cool! They truly made this stay unforgettable.
The service. We often talk about omotenashi in traditional Japanese inns, but TRUNK(HOTEL) takes hospitality to another level in a contemporary setting. Thoughtful surprises punctuated our stay, from the nightly CBD eye masks left on the pillow (we didn’t even know we needed them until then – a game changer), to the small savoury snacks and welcome pastries, including pastéis de nata from a neighbouring patisserie.
The design. The hotel is beautifully conceived, with every detail carefully thought through. We stayed in the smallest room type, yet it still felt spacious and impeccably decorated. Luxurious but intelligently designed: integrated phone plugs and switches, beautiful natural materials, a drawer with a built-in display for the room’s ceramics, and the ceramics themselves, which were oh so beautiful. Even the custom bathroom carpet and amenities were customised.
The intimacy. The hotel is small, discreet, and feels private. You hardly cross paths with other guests, creating the sense of being looked after individually, almost as if the entire place was just for you. No idea how many room there are, but doesn’t feel like many.
The overall generosity. Embodied by the free welcome drink. In other hotels you get watery, generic mocktails. Here, the rooftop terrace overlooking Yoyogi Park greeted us with perfectly crafted drinks, including a bold, perfectly balanced Negroni prepared by an experienced (and, of course, wonderfully kind) bartender.
The pool. A true rarity in Tokyo: an outdoor pool. Not part of a massive resort with a thousand rooms, but in an intimate setting where you can cool down under 35 degrees heat with a view of yoyogi park trees. Phenomenal.
The location. Steps away from Yoyogi Park, walking distance to Shibuya, and surrounded by excellent cafés and restaurants of Tomigaya.
The overall experience. I’ve stayed in many hotels in Tokyo. This is it for me. A benchmark for contemporary hospitality, seamlessly integrated with a beautiful restaurant and thoughtful amenities throughout. Every element feels intentional and elevates the stay. I wish I...

Hotel & Room: Beautiful and modern with nods to Japanese culture through design, art, and materials It's very small with limited rooms and 1 elevator but that's what we loved about it — the quiet. Lobby, though small, was beautifully furnished and clean. The moment you step in, it feels like you're in a nice, quiet bubble Restaurant on the 1st floor was very good. As a guest of the hotel, you can eat up on the pool bar if the restaurant gets full. Rooms were wonderful, spotless, comfortable with lush green balconies. You get a welcome snack, free unlimited water, turn down service (cbd eye masks, snack, and herbal tea every night), really awesome daily essentials such as serum and moisturizer packets.
Staff So nice and welcoming. Because the hotel is so small, they remember you right away, remember you order as well as your preferences. They were all extremely attentive, professional, and wonderful.
Pool This was our favourite part about the hotel. It was a treat to jump in the pool (heated) and jacazzi looking over Yoyogi Park after very long overstimulating days. Pool and bar was always very quiet so the service was immaculate Very very clean and well maintained Truly felt like an oasis in the middle of Tokyo Drinks were great
Location: Super convenient Close to the Metro Blocks away from the hustle and bustle of Shibuya 7eleven a block or 2 away and across that, a small but well stocked market Lots of cute stores and good restaurants around the hotel

Read moreI will be completely honest in saying that I had concerns that this hotel would be more instagram than substance and as such arrived with a small amount of apprehension. I could not have been more wrong nor more surprised at the hotel and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone staying in Tokyo. First note is on the service. It was phenomenal. From check in, through to finding us by the pool to let us know that whilst we were leaving too early for breakfast they could arrange for us to have paninis to take away at check out in the morning. They were so friendly and helpful yet unobtrusive. Nailed it. Rooms were excellent. Very good size with a balcony too. Products were high quality and bed so incredibly comfortable. Hotel bar is fantastic and then there is the pool. Caveat is that it’s north facing so doesn’t get much sun. On arrival it was 21 degrees which was chilly once the wind was added in. Thought they’d be no way I’d last long in the pool until we got in and noted it was warmed to the temperature of a very comfortable bath. Didn’t move from it for what seemed like hours overlooking Yoyogi Park. Put simply, the hotel is absolutely substance as well as style and we loved it. Great way to end our...
