Caution. Strange coincidence, but another place with some kind of secret cover charge. Second time I've run into such in just the last few days. Again, I paid without protest and checked the entrance carefully as I left. And again I'm taking away a star.

Quite inconspicuous place with only about a dozen seats down a short flight of stairs. Bookish atmosphere with a lot of titles that I recognized on the walls. Side business of fancy (leather?) book covers. Only two English books, both oldies, but translations of a number of famous English books. No BGM or Wi-Fi and the Rakuten Mobile signal is quite weak, but I couldn't have studied anyway because it's a no-talking venue. And paying a premium for the rules, too...

Flavorful Columbian coffee, but the giant ice cube reduces the value proposition... Pushing a bit to call it a weak four stars overall but dropped to three stars because of the surprise extra charge when I left. Table charge? Time-based charge? Should be posted on the door, whatever it is. (Actually it's in Japanese in a little booklet that's hanging there, but you shouldn't have to study the shop's manual before trying to get a cup of coffee. 『読書がしたくてのカフェ訪問は、ここで間違いは絶対起こらないはずです』 はじめて存在を知ったのは下北沢店ですが、自宅から近いせいもありこちらの店舗の方が好みです。 今回２度目の訪問。ちょっと冷え込むので、お冷やではなく白湯をさりげなく出してくれた心配りが嬉しい♪ 下北沢店もそうですが、ここはまさに『THE・読書のためのカフェ』。「落ち着く」「美味しい」「心配りが素敵」と三拍子揃ったとてもよいお店。 私が読書カフェに求める条件は、①スマホうるさく鳴らしてる輩がいない、②とにかくカリカリカリカリ気忙しくノートを取る・勉強してる方がいらっしゃらない、③おしゃべりがとかくうるさい人がいない、④フード・ドリンクが不味くない、の４つですので、これらの条件をすべて満たしてくれるこのお店は非常ーーーーーーっにありがたい存在です。 ただ、詳細についてはレビューで他の方が沢山書いてもいらっしゃるので割愛しますが、システムはかなり独特です。そこに、「こんな(※ちゃんとテーブルにマニュアルがあります)細かいことまでいちいち言われたくない!!」と拒否反応を示される方はさておき、「とにかく私は落ち着いて本を読みたいんだ!!」と力強いポリシーをお持ちの方には最高のお店の一つになることは間違いありません。やっちゃいけないことに関しては事前にすべて手引きで説明してくださっているので、何か言われるかもしれないとビクビクしなくてよい安心感があるので個人的にはシステムに賛成派です。 ただし、一つだけ!強いて挙げれば、トイレの鍵を楽に閉められるものに変えて欲しいです。トイレに行く際って、「あ、そろそろしたくなるころだから行っておこうかな」ではなく、緊急性がある時がほとんどだと思うのです。あの繊細な鍵をそのように差し迫った状況で周囲に配慮してあまり大きな音を響かせずに、、、というのはなかなかに難易度が高いミッションだと感じましたf(^_^; でも本当にそれだけ。おかげさまで今日も満足とあたたかさに満ち溢れながら家路につけました。これから...
