Vegetable Ramen Delight for Veggie Day
This was our second visit to Afuri, and we were just as impressed as the first time we dined at their Ebisu location.
I tried the veggie ramen and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful and satisfying it was. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the vegetables were almost cooked to perfection. I especially enjoyed the daikon radish, asparagus, broccoli, fresh tomatoes, and mizuna greens. The noodles had a great al dente texture, and the garlic added a nice kick of flavor. While there was a slight burn on some of the asparagus, overall, this was a delicious and healthy meal.
The service was friendly and courteous. The staff was helpful in answering my questions about the ingredients.
I initially planned to order the summer special: cold yuzu shio ramen because of the poster located in front of the vending machine. But I changed my mind when I learned it was Vegetable Day in Japan.
I also learned from my kid that Afuri is a place, a mountain actually. The restaurant's decor features umbrellas, which are perfect for rainy days and add a touch of charm.
We had a great experience at Afuri Naka-Meguro. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere...

Their specialty is yuzu shio ramen (japanese lemon salt-based chicken broth noodle) the taste is light and refreshing. Comes from the thin noodles, chicken-oil and herbs soup, and the toppings. No oily taste left even after you drink all the soup. The pork cubes also great, minimum fat part and just right thickness to be chewy and soft at the same time. Go for it for your first visit. You have the option to change the soup with a bit thicker broth, and to change the meat into chicken. Since the soup is chicken based, then no pork being served in the bowl.
The tsukemen (dipping noodle), is basically the dry version of their specialty. But the soup is a bit different since they put sweet soy sauce to enhance the taste. You can pick to be served cold or hot one. The cold one will be so refreshing in the summer. I ate it while raining in the evening, and it is still refreshing.
Overall, a bit more expensive than other ramen, but I think worth every penny for the experience. Oh, and also...yes I ordered 2 bowl for me. It...
Read moreIf you like shio (salt) or shoyu (soy sauce) ramen, then Afuri ramen is the place to go -- also especially if you are female! Afuri is the first ramen shop in Japan that wanted to create a nice ramen experience for women. Most of the regular ramen shops in Japan are usually packed with salarymen slurping their noodles, but Afuri changed all that and now has many locations in Tokyo. I like the shio ramen best -- the broth is very light and smooth. The chashu is also very tasty since it's flamed grilled. The noodles are thin, but you can order thicker noodles instead. The atmosphere is very chic and comfortable. I've visited the Naka-Meguro and Ebisu locations and they're both within walking distance from the train. Note: Cash is not accepted, only cards (including IC cards). If you are looking for tonkosu ramen, then Afuri is not for you -- that's the one type I wish they served, but you can't go wrong with other...
