First time trying I’m Donuts? at their Nakameguro branch and honestly… I get the hype now 😭 Came on a rainy Saturday morning around 9:50 AM, and the line wasn’t too crazy (rain = secret hack). Waited around 30 mins, but it flew by.
The staff gives you a paper menu while you wait (super helpful, and she spoke English well!) I asked for her recommendation and she recommended the matcha panna cotta (special menu, you can only get this flavor on the Nakameguro branch!) and lemon, so I got those, plus cacao and the OG I’m Donuts? flavor.
Quick reviews: 🍋 Lemon – very lemony and zesty, like a citrus slap (in a good way). 🍫 Cacao – expected a chocolate filling but it’s just coated on top. a bit meh. 🍩 I’m Donuts? – okay, soft and not too sweet, but not super memorable. 🍵 Matcha panna cotta – Filled with thick matcha cream, not sweet at all, super earthy — you can taste the greeny HAHAHA 💀💚
Kinda sad pistachio wasn’t available at this branch, but still worth it. All the donuts are fluffy and chewy.
Pro tip: go on a rainy day for less queue. And MUST GET THE LEMON!🤤 Don’t think, just do it and thank...
Read moreYou've probably seen "I'm donuts?" pop up on your social media feeds, thanks to its viral popularity, constant crowds, and notoriously long lines. Luckily, I happened to pass by their branch in the Kemimeguro area when the line wasn't too long and moved relatively quickly.
A staff member came along the queue, handing out menus. On that particular day, there were only eight varieties available. We ended up ordering the custard, chocolate, and matcha options. And let me tell you, every single donut was absolutely delicious! The dough is incredibly soft, not too thick, and has a slight crispness to it. With every bite, it was just pure enjoyment. I even think the plain version would be fantastic, as the flavor and texture of the dough itself are already superb.
The custard filling was delightful and not overly sweet. The chocolate donut, while not having a filling, featured a lovely frosted chocolate topping and the dough itself had a rich chocolate flavor. The matcha was also excellent. These donuts are definitely a...
Read moreI've been wanting to try this place for a while, but the lines are always quite scary. Yesterday in the late afternoon they sold out the most popular ones, therefore the queue was acceptable and I finally made it. People who have been living in Japan for a while know that usually there is near-zero correlation between the lines and the quality of the food for any given popular spot, therefore my expectations were not so high. I have to admit, the donuts are above average. I tried a plain one and a chocolate one. The dough has a nice chewy/pillowy balance and it is pleasantly yeasty. It is not overly greasy, although fried food is fried food. They are definitely miles above the other famous donuts chains here in JP. I appreciate that they did not spiked the price per unit, considering how "ninki" this spot is at the moment. So, yeah, I'd buy them again in a "not-so-impossible" queue day, but I'd never wait 30-40...
