Very sad to say that after seeing the pictures and rating on hostelworld we were let down by this place. Staff were lovely on arrival so I can see why people who rated this place highly spoke mostly about staff. Unfortunately the dormitory side of things was really not up to scratch. Beds were a bit dirty, bed bug stains on mattress were enough to put me off. Blood stain on curtain for bed pod. Curtain had a big gap at top letting light in. Room was just badly designed beds in a cold warehouse style building. Pretty grimy and a heavy metal door that slammed all night and room lights repeatedly turned and left on (often by the people working there) so little sleep could be had. Staff also lived in the hostel so felt super awkward to complain in front of them all. Don’t let the pictures fool you! Should have taken some photos to illustrate my point and for fair comparison to the images used online but was more concerned with finding alternative accommodation. Private rooms were just walls that didn’t even go ceiling to floor so I feel sorry for those who pay for private. We had to fight for our refund for a partial refund after they initially said they needed 7 day’s notice for cancellations from hostelworld. (I work in a hostel and I’ve never heard that!) I’m sorry to say this guys but this...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant on a weekend for lunch. Although we didn’t have a reservation, we were fortunate to get a table after waiting a few minutes.
Unfortunately, the service from the hall staff was disappointing. When we arrived, we had to stand awkwardly in silence for quite a while as the staff member was preoccupied with his tablet. When he finally seated us, we noticed a clear difference in how we were treated compared to Japanese customers. For example, he took time to explain the menu to them but said nothing to us when handing it over.
I ordered the Pasta Lunch Set, which includes an antipasto plate, your choice of pasta, and a drink. The fried chicken on the antipasto plate was delicious. I also tried Koji milk for the first time—it was unique, not really to my taste, but interesting.
This is clearly a popular restaurant, so I recommend making a reservation in advance to avoid waiting. However, I hope the service becomes more consistent for all guests...
Read moreOne of the best guesthouses I have ever been staying at. Compared to other hostels in Tokyo, this one is rather small since there are no more than two dormitory rooms. It is quite new and everything is kept clean. Your personal bed area offers a lot of space! The owner and staff were incredibly nice and sociable, which made for the greatest memory at this place. They host social events which really does its job at breaking the ice with staff members and other guests.
One big issue - no lockers! Maybe they will change that in the future.
There is a real onsen in walkable distance. Those are rare in Tokyo, so if you don't mind being naked around strangers you have to give it a try. They even accept small tattoos (Usually they are forbidden in public baths).
As someone who visits Tokyo rather frequently, this is the guest house where I would...
