Mexican Bolognese Burger 🇲🇽🫘🍔 @kissa_chilltoco

Kichijoji is slowly becoming a heated battleground for gourmet burger restaurants. 🍔

The latest contender recently opened on the site of the French bistro Galopin, which shuttered its doors in June 2021. 🆕

It has a spacious interior, with stylish concrete and blue-tiled walls and a retro atmosphere. Seating includes tables for two, sofas for four and counter seats for solo diners so easily accessible to all. There are also terrace seats for those who prefer to sit outside. 🪑

I was pretty hungry so ordered the biggest looking item on the menu which was the Mexican Bolognese burger. 🤤

Visually it's a fun dish - the chili beans in homemade tomato sauce overflow from the burger onto the fries and plate. The taste is quite light and not as messy as traditional chill beans. Although it had a Mexican naming, there was hardly any spice at all, probably so that everyone can enjoy this, but I would have preferred more heat. 🌶

Patty was thick and high quality, and the buns were a solid companion, keeping all the ingredients in check. Fries were crispy and extremely tasty, with a unique curve making them perfect for dipping into the chili bean sauce. 🍟

Another highlight for me was the vanilla milkshake, which at only ¥300 (lunchtime discount) was an absolute bargain! It was rich, creamy and came in a very generous portion. 🥤

Burger Kissa Chilltoco is a welcome newcomer to the Kichijoji burger scene and I look forward to trying more of their other menu items, hopefully with some craft beer next time! 🍻

They have a variety of burgers with interesting flavors. I got the BBQ pineapple and it did not disappoint. They also had milkshake, but only vanilla. I wish they offered chocolate, too.

The service was good. The staff were friendly and inviting. They explained the menu, too.

The atmosphere was cute and cozy. I was a little apprehensive to go in because you couldn’t see what it looked like from the outside, but once I got in, I felt really comfortable. They have counter seats, 2-seaters, and sofas for bigger groups.

Stopped by for a late lunch on a weekend. Got the burger and the cream soda. The burger patty was so juicy and all of us were happy with what we got. One thing I’d say is that the french fries portion is quite small - five pieces ish. And the burger was on the smaller side.
