I recently visited Denny’s in Japan, and while the food was good, the service left much to be desired. It seems they are so focused on cutting staffing costs that they’ve forgotten the importance of providing basic customer service.
I simply wanted to ask if I could get the brunch set without scrambled eggs, but there was no way to make any changes via the digital menu. I hit the call button three times over the course of ten minutes, only to realize that hardly anyone was working. Eventually, I was helped by an overworked employee who was clearly juggling too much.
If Denny’s is going to eliminate human interaction, they need to optimize their digital menus to allow simple customizations, like choosing how you want your eggs. This would save time for both customers and staff.
