Fungo Mishuku Honten is nestled in a residential neighborhood, roughly a 25-minute walk from the nearest train or subway station. It offers seating for about 20 indoors and 10 outdoors. I visited just after 1 PM without a reservation and was the only customer. The atmosphere features American country music, serving classic American fare like burgers, sandwiches, and mac n' cheese.
I ordered the mini classic burger with an extra side of mac n' cheese, along with a pastrami sandwich (which was more akin to a burger). The burger patty was above average, though some spots were a bit tough, suggesting it could be more tender. The in-house, natural yeast buns were excellent, virtually indistinguishable from artisanal bread. My burger included fried onions, the patty, tomato, lettuce, and mayo on the top bun. The fries were well-salted and served with individual ketchup packets. The mac n' cheese, served in a miniature oven dish, was a small but pleasant taste of homemade Americana.
The pastrami "sandwich" used the same burger bun, with the pastrami sliced thinner than typical American style, but acceptable for Japan.
Ultimately, this spot is quite off the beaten path and seems like an excellent local haunt. However, its distant location makes it less convenient...
Read moreNot an easy choice between 4 or 5, but in the end we’d give it a solid 5. It was a bit cold in the shop as it was freezing outside. A camp stove would have gotten it to a five star for atmosphere. Music was good. Inside was nice and I think the outside is excellent spring through fall as it’s one of the rare outside seating space PLUS the doors fold away to the inside which will be nice.
The menu is very broad. While one may not agree with a Cesar salad with bacon, my son appreciated it nevertheless just as he did the club burger. It’s a good sign when a restaurant can pull off a wide variety of items.
Burgers were very good. I can normally eat one no problem but this was almost too filling thanks to the bigger than standard patty. A few more fries and some mayo plus a variety of mustards would be appreciated.
The double hamburger was incredible. How anyone other than a 15 year old can put that away is a mystery to me, but...
Read moreGourmet burger joint right next to the Setagaya park. Stopped by after taking the family to the park as it had high ratings. The place was easy to get in at 11am on a Sunday but started getting busy by noon. Good portion burger that comes with fries and got a coffee float as a drink. They offer the apple pie for dessert from the grannie smith shop right across the street which was nice too. Too full to eat for lunch so stopped by to grab some pie and took it to-go. Fries were a bit salty but Great service, overall excellent burger, and reasonably priced for the location. P.s. Recommend adding the fried egg topping...
