Kanna — Restaurant in Tokyo

Very popular in Tokyo. Always listed on the top list on Tabelog, Japanese restaurant reviews website. With its high reputation, expect a long line, especially during summer. They have a variety of interesting seasonal flavors as well as the standard flavors. Their signatures are the Oshiruko, red bean paste, and purple sweet potato. All of their syrups and toppings are hand made. The ice is very soft as it just melts in your mouth and you don’t get brain freezes from eating these ices here. They even change how thick they shaved their ice depending on the toppings. They do serve lunches too but there’s heaps of other great places to eat around so I recommend eating elsewhere and come here to have their shaved ice...

The best thing about Japanese summers are the Kakigori! The fancy kakigoris are pricey but they are worth it once in a while. I actually came here before for just tea but with summer approaching it's a hot Kakigori spot. Booked online the night before and got a seat immediately when we arrived in time for our late afternoon slot.

Emerald かき氷 - ¥1850 - was visually beautiful

Kiwi - ¥1450 - had a nut treat in the middle (caramelised nuts and nut butter)

There are so many serious Kakigori contenders so it's hard to say but the ones here were definitely good with visuals to match. A solid 4+ with bonus points for being near a park / easy...

The set meals and shaved ice are both delicious. The shaved ice is around 1000Y for the smaller ones (with less toppings) and around 1500Y+ for the bigger ones. I had the strawberry shaved ice (smaller) and thought it was pretty good. The set meal was the real star of the show though. It was delicious and pretty inexpensive. We had a reservation because I heard there are long lines but while the store was busy, there was no line on a Tuesday at 3pm. I'm not sure if the staff speak English but judging by the reviews lots of foreigners come...
