Summary: one of the best Italian restaurant I have visited in Tokyo! It’s a very small shop in Sangejaya, less that 10 minutes walking from Sangejaya station. They have tables outdoors and few tables indoor. Inside a lot of Italian stuff hanging at the wall, and writings from all customers (you can also find mine 😀). Atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, staff is very kind and attentive (and it was funny to see the waiter peeling lemons to prepare them for homemade limoncello! That reminded about when I was in Italy and my mum used to do same 😀). First of all I found grissini on the table, now every Italian knows this is really an Italian thing 😀, I was positively surprised. The waiter explained the today specials in Japanese to my partner and even though I cannot speak Japanese I could catch some key words 😀: fiori di zucca, bruschetta with uni (sea urchin) and pasta con bottarga. We ordered all of these plus some Hokkaido oysters and pasta with braised beef cheeks. Fiori di zucca, another typical Italian staple, was good but they presented their own version: the flower was small and attached to a zucchini (in Italy we usually only use the flower) and the flower was stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies (that’s traditional) and on the side some tomato sauce. I was a bit surprised but at the end it was delicious. The bruschetta with uni was a bit small (the bread) but packed with delicious uni, big thumbs up! Delicious, definitely worth it! Then we had pasta with bottarga. Bottarga is dried mullet roe, originally from Sardinia, an expensive delicacy. Pasta was served with sliced zucchini, parsley and garlic. Then the waiter grated the bottarga on our dishes: another sign of true Italian cooking! I really appreciated that! The pasta was really good and the addition of zucchini to original recipe was spotted on! Next we had homemade penne with braised beef cheeks. The penne were delicious and the beef so tender and tasty. We finished with Tiramisu and Cassata. The tiramisu was good and very much traditional, but the cassata was a kind of ice cream made with ricotta cheese. It was not was I was expecting (and definitely not a cassata) but it was good. We also had a bottle of Spumante and price was average considering the quality and location (less than 10,000 yen per person). For sure one of the best Italian restaurant I have tried in Tokyo (and I have tried many) and highly...
