As regulars of this lovely, quaint coffee shop say……everything is perfect with this shop; no need to update to something modern. After visiting this shop, I totally agree with the regular locals. I found this shop by sheer coincidence. I was ment to get off at Musashiseki to visit local government but got on an express train by mistake, haha. I could have gone back and take a local train but since it was way passed lunch time, I decided to get off at Tanashi station. I googled and read some good reviews of this coffe shop but I was a little skeptical, you know sometimes the reality is quiet different from reviews. Easy listening music of " The Hills are Alive" blurted out when I opened a worned wooden door. An elderly guy greeted me with a pleasant smile and asked politely if I was the one who phoned a while ago. I replied yes and told him these days with Covid-19 it's better to check the shop first before visiting. Their daily special was Japanese style humberger steak with 'ponzu and daikon oroshi sauce. ' It seems the elegant lady who bought the daily special to the table was the chef. The Japanese humberger steak and the simple Japanese soup with seaweed and sliced onion both were so tasteful. And the hot coffee at the end of the meal was made with freshly grinded coffee. The interior of the coffee shop is eye-catching, too. Colourful glassware windows, wooden telephone box (now disfunct), large wooden tables with chairs, old clock on the wall.… I hope I'll be able to visit this authentic Showa retro coffee shop...
Read moreKajuen is an extremely warm and cozy local cafe/restaurant that serves delicious and homey Japanese-style food. The atmosphere and design are retro but in a unique European style. The best part of this wonderful place is, in my opinion, the service. The couple who runs it is extremely sweet and welcoming, and their kindness has made me feel at home and like a part of the family whenever I walk through their doors! They always welcome guests with a big smile and serve hot and delicious meals quickly and joyfully. They love to engage with customers, and their prices simply can’t be beaten! You can get a full set dinner for only ¥1000, which is an amazing deal. This is one of my go-to favorite restaurants in Tokyo, and I love to bring...
