We had a chance to try Kochiyo Halal Cuisine in Nakakasai near Don Quijote / Yamada Denki area.
Having tried many different cuisines already in our lives (American, Mexican, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian, Philippine) we were fortunate to experience many new flavors / tastes from Kochiyo.
Not your standard Indian restaurant as found in Nishikasai and around Tokyo. We have been to several Indian restaurants around Nishi-Kasai but the dishes here are unique to Southern India. Have not experienced these flavors anywhere else before. Uniquely surprising and delicious.
Their dishes are Halal and focused on alcohol free with no harmful / toxic ingredients. Even the meats, cheeses and dairy products must be certified Halal and they must not use non-halal ingredients. It is difficult to find an organic foods restaurant especially for our kids so eating at a Halal restaurant using halal certified foods is closer to being organic and healthier.
Dishes:
Nabe Porotta - Soft Southern Indian flatbread with seasoned beef (delicious with many herbs - never had this taste before) Manchurian Porotta - Stir fried flatbread. They seasoned it with spices. Tasted good and almost looked like a meat dish! Garlic Prawn - Everyone loved their garlic prawn. Especially the kids! Chicken 65 - Similar taste to garlic prawn and the kids loved it too! Chicken Coconut Curry - Soft, tender Chicken with a hint of coconut. Ours came out a little spicy so the kids couldn't eat it but we enjoyed it.
Drinks:
Avocado Milk - Tastes almost like a vanilla milkshake but very yummy! Gulab Sharbat - Rose Petal Milk drink - Wow, haven't had this before. Light rose fragrance with chia seeds in a dairy drink
Customer service:
Excellent customer service! Happy to take care of us and we felt very welcome.
This is so important to us. I will not return to a restaurant with rude restaurant staff....ever. Even if the food is incredible.
Not only was the food delicious but the staff were happy to welcome us in and take care of us if we ever had any questions or needs. You didn't feel like you were bothering them if you had to ask something. We needed to reduce the spiciness of all the dishes down for the children. They were happy to do so and double checked if it was ok.
Note: Being able to speak Chinese myself there are so many Chinese restaurants we never go back to because the waitress / waiter was rude or didn't care. Bad energy / Rudeness = Unhappy customer and indigestion
CON:
One thing they need is child seats for young children. They didn't have any child seats yesterday night but tried to find something for our child to sit on when using the chair. We were able to manage without a child seat or high chair but maybe younger or shorter children may need one.
If you're looking for new and tasty flavors different from your normal Indian cuisine in Tokyo then give Kochiyo a try. We had a very pleasant and delicious dining experience and look forward to dining here...
Read moreThere are some Kerala restaurants run by Mappila Muslims in Japan and this is one of them.
Shameer Ahamed, the owner of this new restaurant who originally hails from Palakkad, and his mates from Kochi & Kollam, provide Kerala cuisine including Mappila one alongside Kovai biryani from Tamil Nadu.
Furthermore, they’ll show you how to infuse the authentic Kerala dishes with a touch of Japanese culinary twist when you relish every bite of their unique creation of Nabe Parotta inspired by both kizhi parotta and hot pot, and their style of Curry Rice!
KHMC have two chefs, one from Wayanad who used to work for some popular South Indian restaurants in the Kansai area and the other from Kolkata prepared elaborate dishes with their obvious cooking skills.
Don’t forget to have a look through their list of halal soft drinks and mocktails as well. Their signature avocado milk and gulab sharbat are definitely worth trying if you’re lucky enough...
Read moreMy visit to your restaurant left me disappointed, especially considering it’s a place I chose for its reputation.
Delayed Service: We placed our order around 9:05 a.m., but nothing arrived until 9:30, When the first dish finally arrived, we were given just 5 minutes to decide on any additional items—before we'd even had a chance to taste what we ordered.
Prioritizing Deliveries Over Guests: It felt like the staff were focused solely on preparing Uber Eats orders, leaving in-house customers like us overlooked.
Quality Concerns: The sambar, of all things, was poor—unexpected for a South Indian restaurant. The mutton was undercooked and extremely tough.
Aside from the parotta, none of the dishes met our expectations.
Overall, the food wasn’t bad—but nothing was memorable or exceptional.
I hope you consider this feedback, as what was intended to be a good meal ended up being a letdown. I can't recommend your restaurant based on...
