【目黒のラーメン聖地で味わう至福の一杯】
Menya Fujishiro Meguro (麺屋 藤しろ 目黒店) is a ramen hotspot right by Meguro Station, drawing a steady crowd with its reputation for some of the best ramen in the area. Arriving during the lunch rush, I faced a long queue and a cash-only ticket machine that only accepted old bills — a frustrating hiccup that left me scrambling to pay with coins as all my bills were of the new type. This meant not affording what I wanted and settling for the most basic ramen option, missing out on the ajitama egg I’d been craving.
Despite the payment hassle, the ramen itself was superb. The broth was rich and velvety, with a deep, umami-packed chicken base that clings perfectly to the noodles. Another highlight? The condiments — lemon ginger and minced garlic — that added a bright, zesty kick to the hearty broth. The narrow, bustling space adds to the atmosphere, making each slurp feel like a quintessential Tokyo ramen experience.
Would I go again? Absolutely, but next time, I’ll bring the right cash.

Read moreWe came back at 1pm, and got in a crazy long line. Just getting you a time slot doesn't guarantee that you don't have to wait since the place is small and only seats around 9 people at a time. There were still a good amount of people from the earlier time slot in line. We waited for about an hour before we got to go inside. Single eaters get to go in whenever there's availability. So if you have a big party, you might consider splitting up.
Honestly, it doesn't even matter if you sit together because no one talks in there. It is super quiet and all you hear is the glorious sound of noodle slurping. Once you enter the restaurant, order your food from a vending machine (there's english), a receipt spits out, and you wait to get seated. Once you're finally seated, the chefs will craft your food. You enjoy your noodles, slurp loudly so that people waiting are jealous, then you leave and talk about your experience outside...
Read moreIf the only kinds of ramen you can get in Tokyo are good or very good, this is easily on the very good side of the line. A rich, thick chicken broth, not too salty; toothsome thin noodles; pork that’s cut just right, not too fatty and thick but more than a deli slice; bamboo shoots that are boiled not pickelled; a perfectly cooked egg. Grated ginger and garlic on the counter. Friendly service (one of the guys retrieved 100 yen which in my anticipation I had left in the machine.) Nice soundtrack, some kind of Japanese pop, unfamiliar and appealing. Retro swivel counter seats.
On the first floor of a not-new complex with three floors of maybe 16-18 restaurants, some tiny, such an alluring warren of spots (some of which are also very good I’m sure) but also kind of forbidding to the western non-Japanese speaker. 900 yen, even after annual cost-of-living adjustment, so this is very good cost...
