Obon de Gohan — Restaurant in Tokyo

The food was really good (for the cost) and it was cheap and filling and convenient. Good for kids, and the atmosphere is family friendly.

The worst point is the customer service. We asked for a water refill because we didn’t know the water was self service at the drink bar (we didn’t order the drink bar so we assumed it was only for paying drink bar customers, and didn’t know it had water, no staff told us to refill our water at the drink bar)

The male staff angrily came over and grabbed TWO water cups in ONE HAND and he was shaking violently, I don’t know if he was shaking because he was anxious, angry or because he was in the presence of a foreigner. He was shaking so violently and ridiculously trying to refill two cups of water by holding them precariously in ONE HAND, that he sloshed water everywhere and spilled water all over my husband and I, and a huge puddle of water landed on the floor. He didn’t apologize and just sternly told us to refill at the drink bar next time and walked away. He didn’t come back to clean up the water all over the floor either.

I was laughing the whole time because it was such a ridiculous scene.. trying to hold two glasses of water in one hand and pouring the water with the other hand was ridiculous, and obviously it was going to spill, and the whole thing was just insanely bad service and laughable. My husband was so angry for the whole meal he couldn’t even enjoy it after that. I had to go to the register and pay alone or my husband probably would have yelled at the staff member (it was the same one who spilled the water everywhere)

I’m sorry if we made a mistake by asking for a refill but we weren’t informed water was self service, and most places in Japan have staff who refill your water (my husband is Japanese for the record so there was no language misunderstanding there) but I would appreciate it if the staff just gently told us where we could refill our water instead of making a big dramatic show of spilling water all over us in anger instead. Even our 2 year old daughter was shocked and kept looking at the floor...

Great place with food at a reasonable price. There are two types of rice that you can choose from the menu and it is refillable if it is not enough for you. The food tasted good.
