Be careful !! Basically there is no permanent collection and the exhibition space is really small. Make completely sure WHAT IS THE CURRENT exhibition BEFORE you purchase the 1000 yen ticket !! (or better, before you bother to visit the place) I was expecting to see some Japanese paintings including some famous ones and other asian arts depending on some of the other reviews. I can read Japanese but didn't carefully check out the website in advance. When I went there, the exhibition was about 'traditional stationeries for asian calligraphy' which seemed to make little sense to most people except very few who are very much into old means of writing chinese letters... The staff there kindly opened the door for me to enter the building (which actually felt a bit fishy somehow) and then another staff just told me it's 1000 yen for one person. They provided no written information before I purchase the ticket. I was completely disappointed about the uninteresting current exhibition. There were no paintings at all. I almost wanted to request refund, but just gave up after a...
Read moreThere are really two parts to this museum I think - the exhibits and the garden. The main focus of the museum is calligraphy, so unless you are an enthusiast or willing to learn more about this field, you might not be so interested. Also, there is very little english. I asked if I could use my phone to translate some of the information and they said I could. The highlight of the museum for me was the amazing garden. It was quite a surprise to see such a large green space hidden away in Tokyo. Entrance fee is 1100 yen and it is quite out of the way, but it's a lovely area and quite enjoyable walking to and...
The museum is located in a quiet residential area. Its appearance looks like a frugal mansome with wide land. The museum exhibits antique arts collected by Keita Goto, former chairperson of Tokyu Corporation. Its collections is variously, Pottery, Teaware, Japanese paintings, Chinese paintings, and Sutras. Some of them are National treasures or Important caltural properties. The main exhibition room of the museum is two. Compared to other museums, the exhibition space and the number of exhibits are very small. The exhibits are not "famous and everyone knows" objects. On the contrary, it means that there are not many visitors and you can watch the exhibits thoroughly. You may be able to fully enjoy the transition of the history and aesthetic sense of art without being "famous and everyone knows" objects. There is a garden that have made use of the slope. Although many of the premises are dense forests, it is well maintained and easy to walk. Attention is required for walking around the garden by disabled persons. Despite having Futako-Tamagawa in the immediate vicinity, you'll almost not feel bustle. It may be the perfect place to quietly and slowly appreciate the...
