Two weeks ago on a Saturday evening, we went to Pizza 4P's Tokyo for dinner. We heard that some claim the pizza here is the best in Tokyo, so we had to try for ourselves and see if the pizza hype is in fact warranted. We booked a reservation very easily through the website TABLECHECK a few days before, but I think we were lucky in getting a spot last moment.
We drove and parked in the parking lot under Azabudai Hills, and we arrived much earlier so we could do some shopping in the exquisite facilities which you should check out if you haven't been before. The restaurant is located street level (1F) in Garden Plaza D. Allow some extra time to find the place as you'll most likely be underground where all the shopping is, and it can be slightly tricky to find the place if it's your first time here 🙂
We had a 7:30pm reservation but arrived like 15 mins earlier and since our seat was available already, we were seated early. The interior is absolutely beautiful, being less than 1.5 years open, and is a perfect place to entertain people for business or pleasure, date night, or special occasions.
They don't have a typical "menu" here per se, but rather will present you with a magazine-like booklet with tons of pages chock full of information about their restaurants, their ideology, and a plethora of information on their food/ingredients/menu with tons of lovely pictures. We wanted to try their most basic pizza, so we ordered their margherita, and then also wanted to try their 4 cheese pizza as well, as we read that many reviewers raved about how great that pizza is. We also ordered their "Earth to People Bagna Cauda (Veggie & Dip)" platter because it looks so amazing and also wanted to try the "Tagliatelle Deer Bolognese " and the "Stracciatella & Sausage with Tomato Sauce Spaghetti".
The veggie platter arrived first, and was more like a piece or art then an appetizer. It tasted healthy and looked wonderful. The tomato sauce pasta came out next. The portion size is painfully small, which is unfortunate, because it is absolutely delicious! Shared between 3 people total, I literarily got 1 bite of this super tasty pasta. Next came the margherita pizza. Pizza in Tokyo is kinda small, to start off, and the size here is pretty small for a small size pizza. Bottom crust was pretty soggy, and was slightly messy getting in for the important first bite. Firstly one could taste the freshness of the mozzarella cheese- might be some of the best tasting cheese I've had here in Tokyo! The sauce was just OK and something was slightly off with the taste/consistancy of the crust. Brought back childhood fears/ memories of whole wheat bread so this might excite some people but for me this "healthy taste" was a slight turn off. Not the best pizza I've had unfortunatley. The Tagliatelle Deer Bolognese came out next, and like the previous pasta dish, it was soo small, but oh sooooo good! Up there with some of the best Bolognese pasta I have eaten before! And then finally the 4 cheese pizza came out. Tons of wonderful gooey cheese and I can see why many people order this pizza because it is very nice. Maybe it's the NYer in me speaking here, but I can never get used to putting honey on pizza but with an all-cheese pizza it just works! Also need to mention that their home-made ginger-ale and honey lemonade were pretty yummy.
Overall we had a really great meal here. You'll pay a pretty penny or 2 or three for anything (and everything) here, but you'll get what you pay for. Their attention to detail, their presentation, their excellent customer service, and most importantly their food is truly delightful. Expect to spend a decent amount of time here for your meal as well, so I'd suggest you get an initial order in as soon as possible, and then you can take your time perusing through their huge menu...
Read moreI rarely caption the photos and this is the evidence that I really enjoyed myself with the food. Note: long review.
Firstly, the ambiance is excellent. The setting is great and from where I seat, which is the counter, I can see in clear view on how the food is prepared.
First I had the fried potatoes, if just potato is boring, why not fried potato with 3 different types of potatoes? Each different type has its own distinct flavor and taste. Give it a go!
Next we had the prosciutto set. Locally sourced meat and cured locally.
Wifey feels it’s not the best, but yeah, every region has its own distinct flavor. I really like the ibaraki flavor. It is salty, and really gives you the super salty taste, but it is not lingering. Nothing short of excellent.
Next is the pasta, usually when you have tomato based pasta, it is always so very tomatoish that you will not forget you are eating a tomato based pasta. But this, just a slight reddish hue, but the acidity of the tomato is the perfect match mater between the cheese and the pasta. I cannot fully explain it, but just get this regardless what!! 10点満点、20点です!
Lastly for the pizza, both the margarita and the 4 cheese is great. But, I regretted not getting 2 saparate ones as the 4 cheese is AWESOME!
Hence in summary, if you are able to book a table here, you are in luck!
If not, keep trying!!! You WILL not regret having your meal here.
Lastly, but not least, pizza 4P’s staff portrays the super excellent Japanese hospitality service. Not only are they patient, they are also very friendly to give recommendations as it is our first time here.
First time here yes. And more visits in the future when I come back to Japan. This will become one of my must stop location whenever I come to...
Read moreA reservation that is 100% worth it. Pricey for sure but it’s the best pizza I’ve had in Tokyo in the past year. My favorite picks were:
The marinated fruit with burrata as appetizer. The creamy contrast of the burrata with the freshness of the fruit + peppermint leaves and a slightly salty dressing is really good. The ceviche is good but I didn’t find it remarkable.
The Margherita pizza as main. All pizzas, with more interesting combinations, were good but I like to try the basics and I felt the tomato sauce in it was really really good.
And I’d order both the cheesecake with caramel and the tiramisu as dessert again. I felt both had a very well balance of flavors.
I would order most of it again. I might avoid the 5 Cheese pizza and the ceviche. They were good but not something I hadn’t tried before.
The ginger ale was the best soft drink of the night. It was soft but spiced, which made it interesting in comparison to a regular ginger ale. I also tried the whey yuzu soda, which is a favorite , and it was… okay but weird, I expected it to be more acid; and the fruit vinegar soda, which was too sweet for my taste.
The place is beautiful: Warm tones and wood, indigo courtains and concrete details. A warm and lightly lighted place in a fancy area. The staff is really kind and from the moment you open the menu, it is clear that they put a lot of care in their offer.
I can’t wait to...
