Descending to the bowels of Azabu Hills Garden Plaza B, one might be forgiven for thinking they’ve stumbled into a particularly well-lit service corridor. Yet, amidst the polished steel and hushed footfalls, this outpost of a Thai chain materializes.
Ordering via the now-standard tablet, the digital interface, blessedly bilingual, efficiently conveys the promise of fiery curries and fragrant rice dishes. A word of caution to the uninitiated: the local palate’s predilection for sweetness has, inevitably, infiltrated these recipes. It is a subtle undercurrent, present but not, thankfully, overwhelming.
The fried rice, a humble dish elevated by the furious dance within the wok, arrived with a satisfying sizzle and a genuine freshness. Each grain bore the mark of intense heat, a fleeting moment of culinary grace. The prad prik, ordered with a deliberate escalation of spice, delivered a welcome удар, a reminder that even in the most meticulously planned environments, a touch of raw, untamed heat can still be found. They, at least, understood the assignment. The green curry, while possessing a certain undeniable flavor profile, succumbed to a lamentable excess of oil and a disconcerting watery consistency. It hinted at promise, but ultimately felt like a diluted aspiration. The papaya salad, on the other hand, was a study in competent execution. Crisp, tangy, and with a hint of the requisite funk, it was a solid offering, though next time, a further coaxing of the chili might be in order.
The pad thai, however, proved a disappointment. Under-seasoned and burdened by an inexcusable mountain of pallid sprouts, it lacked the essential balance of sweet, sour, and savory that defines the dish. It was a bland canvas, devoid of character or conviction. And then there were the spring rolls. At a staggering ¥500 per solitary roll, they represented a culinary transgression of the highest order. Ninety percent of their interior consisted of flavorless rice noodles, a cynical exercise in cost-cutting masquerading as cuisine. Avoid at all costs
The tablet-based ordering system, beyond its basic function, revealed a surprising utility. The ability to request children's plates, water refills, and even to-go containers with a few taps was a minor epiphany, a sliver of pragmatic brilliance in an often unnecessarily convoluted dining landscape. One wonders why such elementary conveniences remain elusive elsewhere..
Despite these inconsistencies, the service was brisk and efficient, bordering on perfunctory, which, in this context, is hardly a complaint. The unseen chef, a phantom of furious activity behind the pass, clearly operates with a commendable urgency.
Krung Siam in Azabudai Hills offers a generally acceptable, if not particularly groundbreaking, Thai experience. It is a reliable option for a swift and relatively satisfying meal amidst the gleaming towers, provided one navigates the menu with a degree of...
Read moreStopped here for a quick bite before my teamLab reservation and there was no line at 1 pm, and yet after waiting for a table to free up (5min) I saw a stunning interior and found delicious food! You order through a tablet and the staff is very quick and nice. You can see the kitchen and the chef at work, and the seats at the tables along the wall have space inside to store your bag! The decor is very cute and the food was divine! I ordered a simple pad Thai that was packed with flavor, a refreshing jasmine tea and a de-li-ci-ous coconut ice cream for dessert. It was so creamy and buttery, with flakes of coconut meat, it's definitely my top...
Read moreJust had lunch there and think we found our new favorite when it comes to Thai in the area. Very nice and colorful interior in the B1 Garden walk of Azabudai hills. Might be challenging to find, depending where you’re coming from. They have both regular paper menu and tablet ordering options with pictures. Staff speaks English too, which is great. Spring rolls come as appetizer lunch set. We ordered two types of soup noodles with extra small gapao and really enjoyed it. It was served quickly and was very delicious. The staff is super friendly and we felt like home....
