I’ve actually visited this place before, but I forgot to make a better review. Porter’s Coffee is probably one of two places in Tachikawa that serves third wave coffee and probably the only place that serves specialty coffee. The first cup from that visit had hints of tamarind.
Home to the winner of the Japan Hand Drip Championship 2020, Porter’s actually relocated to Tachikawa in a cute little stone brick looking house 10 minutes from Tachikawa station. The architecture is fantastic and the interior compliments the vibe that the café gives off. With soft colors of white, grey, and brown, you get a sense that this could be a living space outside of your own.
The floor to ceiling windows and doors offer a sense of openness in such a tiny space, so you won’t ever feel constricted. The first floor is taken up by a huge brew bar with a bench style dining area which faces the baristas. If there aren’t any seats, the second floor can take you in. In fact, I do recommend staying on the second floor especially by the bar stool area that faces the road. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of that since someone else was sitting there.
The latte itself was good and balanced, but maybe a little on the milky side. Speaking of milk, it was very well steamed. It had great creamy texture with good microfoam. Maybe the only thing I’d want is a cappuccino on their menu since latte is too much milk for me, and I really want to taste more of the espresso.
