RAIN ON THE ROOF — Restaurant in Tokyo

Came 13th May 2024 around lunch time

It's an old Japanese style room on the top floor of a building. It's dimly lit, all light behind shogi screens and otherwise soft lighting. Low leather chairs and tables and chairs. Soft jazz is playing. If low fi was a cafe it would be this place.

They serve curry. A lunch set cost 900 yen and included a drink and a curry which was super delicious.

We're so lucky to have experienced it when it was raining as it made such a lovely sound on the roof as the rain fell. Totally understand now why the place is called what it is.

Would have been a solid 5 star place had the toilet not been awful. The bathroom is likley impossible to look clean due to its age but what made it terrible was a squat toilet that had been converted with a wall so close to the seat, you can't sit on it the right way. You have to sort of side saddle. If bathroom facilities are a concern for you, be careful with this place.

I honestly have no idea where other people are saying their curry is mediocre, it was some of the best curry I had during my trip. ESPECIALLY for the price. Jeez, it was only like $7 USD for a full meal? I've had more expensive curry that's tasted much more bland and worse.

Staff were nice, it was easy to order especially if you're a foreigner, and especially exciting if you're a P5 fan!

The curry was soft and so was the meat, the rice was good, the coffee was also great, and the salad was okay but it's literally just a mini salad. I went here for lunch on a sunday around 1pm, the store was half full but by the end of my visit the store was full. I hear you can reserve but I just walked in and was seated quickly. The lunch menu is small (4 items), but I came here for to try the curry 🍛 . By adding 200¥ you can get a hot coffee which I believe is their rain drip coffee brew which was very nice. The curry was not spicy and the chicken was tender so it was a nice dish. I also order the pudding which was tasty and made the total meal under 2000¥.
