Ramen Kagetsu Arashi turned out to be a very satisfying experience and an excellent choice for a quick lunch, even during peak hours. Although there was a line outside when we arrived, the pace of service and high turnover of customers meant the wait felt manageable.
Honestly, for ramen this good, the short delay was well worth it.
The highlight was the tonkotsu ramen beautifully presented with a rich color, inviting aroma, and deep umami flavor that instantly stood out. For me, it was perfectly balanced, though my companion commented that the broth carried a little too much garlic. Personally, I found that extra kick to be exactly what made it memorable. This was very much my kind of ramen, and I would happily return to enjoy it again.
Alongside the ramen, we ordered a gyoza and rice set. The dumplings were nicely pan-fried, flavorful, and complemented the ramen well, while the rice added a simple but satisfying balance to the meal. Together, they made for a hearty and complete lunch.
Ramen Kagetsu Arashi delivers a delicious and fulfilling ramen experience, even in the middle of the busy lunch rush. The tonkotsu ramen shines with its depth of flavor and aroma, and the gyoza set is a great addition. If you don’t mind a short wait, this is absolutely a place worth revisiting.
Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic, flavorful tonkotsu ramen in a...
Read moreFor the last few years this chain of ramen shops called Kagetsu (which I think means flower moon?) has had a seasonal vegetarian/vegan ramen dish on their menu during the spring. In 2013 this starts in the majority of their branches on March 6th, but it was available earlier than that in a handful of branches, including this one.
I last had their vege ramen in 2008, and the recipe has changed somewhat since then - they have more fresh ingredients than before, and also green ramen (!), but the underlying theme is similar - quite garlicky, there's obviously some oil in the soup, but it actually tastes fairly healthy. I think they've found a really good balance of something that is still really tasty, and has the exciting moreishness of junk food, whilst actually being relatively healthy. My non-vegetarian Japanese was sufficiently intrigued that he also ordered the vege ramen, and really enjoyed it too.
They also offer (presumably for the same limited season) vege gyoza and vege fried rice. I didn't try the fried rice but the gyoza were really good.
I'm so pleased this dish exists, ramen being a foodstuff normally completely off limits to vegetarians in Japan. I only wish they served it...
