I love French cuisine and dining so imagine the joy that I felt when my wife surprised me with a meal at Sept Et Huit, a tiny little French restaurant located near Miyanosaka station. Lunch sets at Sept consist of two options: a pasta or a meat dish—today’s options were roasted chicken, stroganoff, or hamburger patty with truffle sauce— or a slightly more expensive option where you get both pasta and the meat dish of your choice. In addition to the entree, you get a garden salad, bread, and a dessert. In order to maximize the experience, my wife and I ordered two different meat options and shared. The roasted chicken was just about perfect; the skin was crisp, crunchy and flavorful while the inside was juicy. The stroganoff was creamy and well seasoned. My wife loved it, claiming it was the best she had ever had!! The salad consisted of a variety of fresh, locally grown produce and the bread was warm and satisfying. Lastly, the dessert options were delightful. My wife went with the peach sorbet—amazing flavor and the coldness made one forget the Tokyo heat—and I ordered the cheese cake served with cassis sorbet and roasted caramel ice cream—a great pairing of flavors. The service was top notch, and they made us feel like we were at home and exhibited extreme patience with us despite being foreigners with limited Japanese skills. The service was impeccable, matched only by the quality of the food.
Overall one of my best culinary experiences in Tokyo (of which I’ve enjoyed many over my four visits to the city — so far). If I’m ever in the neighborhood I will definitely be returning for another visit.
