Swaad — Restaurant in Tokyo

Ordered through Maishoku app. I should start by explaining that I am a trained Canadian Chef who knows what these dishes should taste like when you use fresh ingredients and prepare them properly.

The rice came in a plastic container so thin that it disintegrated from being packed so full with hot rice. I threw away most of it as I did not want to eat plastic shards mixed with my rice; aslo, not sure this packaging was food safe at all. The rice I kept was bland (not Indian but sticky) and swimming in butter/grease with overpowering saffron flavour. The vegetarian curries we ordered looked unappetizing and tasted even worst. Spinach paneer was blended to hide how old and bland the spinach was, plus it contained only a few peaces of paneer. the other curry was made with cashews and paneer in cream sauce and it was gross (couldn't describe it any other way). We also ordered something they advertised as tandoori vegetables (i.e. assorted vegetables cooked in tandoori oven). We got 2 green peppers, split and stuffed with, what it looked like, old samosa stuffing, and they were barely warm and/or cooked. Looks like just blasted in the oven real quick. Nan was lukewarm and very chewy and doughy. First and last time I am ordering form these guys. This was terrible. You should not taunt authentic Indian cuisine if you then turn around and use sticky rice.

Unpretentious, cheap, and delicious curry and naan. On the other hand, D C's review is probably the snobbiest thing I've ever read: as if a small and nondescript Indian restaurant has to represent the pinnacle of Indian gastronomic tradition...
