If you've ever dreamed of working as your own waiter at a French restaurant, TOKIO French Lunatique is your dream come true! This self-service French restaurant offers a unique dining experience that combines the finesse of French cuisine with the comfort of your favorite fast food joint.
The order process is as modern as it gets - you place your order through a ticket machine or their user-friendly app, and then wait for your meal to be prepared. Each dish is assigned a number, and when your number is called, voila! It's time to play 'waiter' and pick up your dish from the open kitchen. Trust me, this little game is less stressful than it sounds and adds a sprinkle of fun to the dining experience.
Now, let's talk food. The star of my meal was undoubtedly the 'Beef Stew'. The tender and flavorful meat, bathed in a luxurious demi-glaze sauce, danced the Can-Can on my palate, leaving an unforgettable taste. My wife's heart was stolen by the 'Seafood Gratin'. The shrimp and scallops were cooked to perfection, and the creamy, cheesy sauce had her humming Mmmmmmm. The 'House White' was an average chap - a dry white wine that did its job without much fanfare.
The prices are quite reasonable, though you do have to work a bit for your meal. But hey, who said French dining can't be fun and interactive? Pro tip: Try to snag a seat on the first floor near the open kitchen. It's the best seat in the house for this culinary theater.
In conclusion, I'd highly recommend TOKIO French Lunatique to anyone looking for good food, good prices, and a pinch of adventure....
Read moreThe area has a very laid back atmosphere, which I like. In the same area, I once played crossminton freely in the Futako-Tamagawa Park across Starbucks, but this time, the trip to Tokio Plage was the highlight. It didn't disappoint because though the ambience was kitsch, the French Italian food was top quality for a price range of only 800 to 1800 yen per entree. I am on gluten-free diet but I risked eating a piece of French bread to dip into the creamy Asari clams, which was soooo good. The roasted Lobster had a creamy bisque topping, the beef stew was tender, and the gorgonzola Risotto was full of flavor. The cheese platter was normal ( very affordable) and the Foie Gras with Steak was only not bad (I've had more flavorful foie gras and pate even). It was a self-service resto, where you order through a machine at the entrance, then they call out your number, but I guess this makes the prices really affordable (esp because paying service crew could be operationally costly). I've been in Japan for five years and been eating out a lot (even ate a full-course meal in a premium Italian resto in Ginza), but this is one of the most memorable meals I've...
Read moreGreat location by the river, and quirky, many-levelled setup. There are two restaurants here. We went to the French one; Lunatique. (It mean moody 😂) The food was good but definitely not plentiful considering the price. The biggest weakness lay in the concept of the place. Get in, buy a ticket for whatever food and drinks you want from a machine, give your tickets to the staff at the counter, and wait for your food to be called on the PA system. Very Japanese and it usually works pretty well, but between my risotto and my friend's pasta, a good 30/40 minutes elapsed. That's all good when there's a big bunch of you having fun, but when there are two of you it's kind of awkward 😂. Everyone eating together is not high on the agenda in Japanese restaurants, they favour quality and freshness of the food, but that was pushing it a bit, and the place was not busy at all. Bottom line: a good place to come and chill chill chill. ...
