Youthful YouTube vloggers have recently released videos about Gakugei-Daigaku, a younger, Shibuya-adjacent residential neighborhood with a burgeoning hipster scene. Even though it was raining pretty hard, my husband and I were curious enough to visit in the morning because it was a direct train line from where we were staying in Shinjuku.
Fidgeting with our umbrellas, we were desperate for coffee, and this spot was within our eye line just at the right time. A staff of young guys greeted us, and the vibe felt less like a coffeehouse and more like a restaurant bar, even though the decidedly modern space felt quite small. We only went as far as the polished natural wood table in front to take our seats, and we felt like we were taking up valuable space.
The cordial staff didn't make us feel that way at all. We just ordered a couple of ¥650 Short Caffe Lattes, and I asked for oat milk for an additional ¥100. Quite satisfying. We were surprised they offered a brunch menu of select toasts, sandwiches, and bowls, as well as pastries and desserts. Yet, the menu went with the full-service vibe they were conveying. Definitely a worthwhile stop especially on a rainy morning.
COFFEE - 4 stars...the Ethiopia Tade blend with oak milk was smooth indeed AMBIANCE - 4 stars...compact but surprisingly relaxing given the customer flow SERVICE - 4.5 stars...really nice crew of young guys TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely a place to hang in...
Read moreI and my friends came to this coffee shop excitedly to get a cup of coffee on a very cold day. The coffee was great, but the staff was kinda avoiding us (as foreigners but we spoke Japanese) to get the seat even I saw some seats were available. Convinced us to say that we were gonna take away, but after I got my coffee, half of customers finished &went out. We stood at the table very near the exit. It's cold outside& I tried to drink my coffee inside first because there wasn't crowded anymore. A staff came to ask us that we ordered for take away but we took so long time in the shop (in polite but he wanted us to leave now). We wanted to sit in there, but he didn't want us to stay in the shop even other customers have left. It would be better if he allowed us just to finish our drink without bother any people and I took like less than 10 minutes. As a picture I took you can see that there were some...
Read moreThis place is excellent. The moment you walk in you feel the familiarity of kissa, but modernized with good design and superb coffee.
They offer coffee and tea suitable for all pallettes. You can purchase beans, syrup, or cold brew concentrate for your home brewing needs.
It's located a short walk from the station. There is limited seating, but enough to comfortably and mindfully consume your bev. We were going places, but in retrospect I wish we'd lingered a little longer.
Also I don't know how they make it, but the strawberry chamomile latte is nothing short of superb. It's creative and has the right balance of flavors. The Indonesian drip was also really good. Even though it was roasted darker than I typically like, the recipe was adjusted to ensure the flavor profile wasn't lost, which I...
