上海飯店 — Restaurant in Toyohashi

A few months ago, i had chance participate for a one of my colleague’s farewell party at 上海飯店, and it was a memorable evening. There were about 20 of us, and we opted for their special Chinese hot pot. They offered two delightful broths: one spicy and the other a light sweet soup, both infused with Chinese herbs.

The hot pot spread was amazing, featuring a variety of vegetables, seafood, and sliced meats. Initially, I thought the spicy broth would be too hot for my taste, but it turned out to be perfectly balanced and full of flavor. The dipping sauces were a fantastic complement as well.

The restaurant also had a nice selection of drinks, from liquor to juice, which catered to everyone's preferences. We enjoyed the food, drinks, and the lively atmosphere, making it a great place for our farewell...

豊橋の夜にひっそりと灯る赤い看板。 その名も「上海飯店」。駅からほんの5分、スナックの居抜きのような店内は、肩肘張らない“ザ・町中華”な空気感がなんとも心地よい。

訪れたのは金曜の夜8時。街の喧騒を少し外れたこの場所には、どこか懐かしく、安心できる空気が流れている。先客は一組、こじんまりとした店内で、静かにチャーハンを炒める音が響く。

頼んだのは「エビチャーハン」。運ばれてきたそれは、黄金色の卵にハム、ネギ、そしてぷりっとした海老が踊るシンプルな構成。塩気は控えめで、油も軽やか。どこか家庭的で、ほっとする味わい。派手さはない。でも、飲んだ夜の〆にはこれがちょうどいい。
