Kokoro — Restaurant in Uji

There was a 30 min wait when we got here at noon (on a weekend ) so we sat outside the restaurant patiently. The lady from Kokoro gave us a English menu so we can get a head start. It is like 5-6 different lunch sets (range from ¥1000-¥1450) Inside the restaurant was some bar seats by the grill and no more than 10 tables. We were seated in the back and we ordered The Kokoro Lunch, The Chicken Rice Lunch set and the Yakitori Donburi set. The potions were all huge and we could ask for more rice (which we didn't). Accidentally came across this place as I was waiting for the famous tea place at the top of the road. The food was amazing, chicken was of splendid multi faceted flavour- batter crispy and chicken beautifully hot and tender. chicken skewer was a great juxtaposition to the fried chicken, portion size excellent and tea was nice a hot. A few blocks from the JR west Station and totally worth coming to! Both my husband and I were very impressed with the flavour and quality of food. The staff speak limited English but have an English menu so you between pointing and them being familiar with the dish names in English, all was good! My husband had the Komodo set and enjoyed everything. I had the lighter Donbori bowl and the chicken was so tender and flavourful! And the salad was very refreshing.
