We are traveling Japan since 1 Week and I was really pleased to have spontanously booked the Uji Cha-gan-ju-tei House to visit Uji.
The house consist of multiple rooms either in traditional japanese style or in western style. While the clean rooms do not have an individual bathroom, there are more than enough common bathrooms available. Staying at this etablisment feels more like staying at a families house and makes the environment very relaxed. After one week of traveling through Japan, this was an experience I really missed dearly.
Furthermore, this relaxed atmosphere extends to the whole city. Uji provides you with the possibilities of making your own Matcha tea or participate in a traditional tea ceremony, which sounds at first quite touristic, but is worth the little money you have to spend on it. Not only because of the experience, but because of the personal and friendly people in this town, which is also true for the employees of the Uji Cha-gan-ju-tei House.
While other people commented that the breakfast is not good, we enjoyed the japanese breakfast, though you have to walk for roughly 8 min to another place We cannot comment on the western breakfast.
The person working there during our stay spoke english on a good level, allowing conversations and recommandated locations for dinner, other activities and provided us with a pocked wifi - which is really helpful here. The free beer dispenser in the common kitchen is also a big plus.
Coming here was the most pleasent experience we had so far in Japan, which we would recommend to anybody - given you like green tea or you want to know how good green tea can actually get - we were quite surprised. If you are not into green tea, you either will be convinced otherwise in this town or may rethink your choice of destination...
Read moreStayed here last Saturday and Sunday, and it was one of the highlights of my Japan trip! After a week of walking through different cities, it felt amazing to finally borrow a Japanese bike from the hostel — such a memorable experience.
The location is perfect — very easy to find and close to everything you’d want to see in Uji. From top-tier specialty coffee and matcha shops to just relaxing by the river, everything is within walking (or biking!) distance.
My room was neat and cozy, complete with a television, AC, and a comfy futon. The common area was also a huge plus — you can borrow glasses and plates for takeout meals, and there’s a fridge where you can store food. This is super convenient since most shops close by 5–6 PM.
I loved the chill atmosphere and how this place made my Uji stay feel extra special. I’m definitely hoping to revisit Uji and...
Read morei stay here with my wife end of July 2024 (weekend) for one night. We really love the place. The owner was really friendly and he could speak english adequately. They overall place was very clean, aromatic, and well-organized. The common space included free water coffee, tea, matcha and the kirin beer!. Also , there were kitchenware, electric stove, microwave, rice cooker, fridge , therefore you can do some small cooking if you want (We realized this before we leave so we missed it and regret so much)
Extra: You can go to supermarket in the tourist area name “Appro” to buy raw meat (including the A5 wagyu) and veggies for cooking and if you go there late evening many if them will...
