This was an interesting experience. Although it looks like this should be more than two stars, you’ll see why I left it at two in a moment. (Summary at the end if you don’t wanna read this)
First impressions walking in, it was awesome. Overall, the atmosphere was wonderful. It really captured the rainforest vibe. The prices weren’t TOO bad considering it’s a more touristy place. Only thing to note is that each water was ¥250 a glass when at every other place I’ve been to over the course of a week (including other touristy restaurants) water has been free. Still, not too bad. Here’s where it gets worse.
For starters, when my table of four received their food, one person did not. Since cooking takes time we waited there for 15 more minutes or so. The food never came. So we had to get the waiter’s attention for them to get the food. They then brought it out immediately, so obviously they just forgot about us. They also did not check in on us a single time, which isn’t too bad until you consider they have ¥500 (approximately) unlimited drinks, which is a lot more than many other similar places. We were not able to receive a single refill since we weren’t ever able to flag them down for them. We also were waiting for 15 minutes to get the check, which we again had to flag the waiter down for.
The food was also subpar. The kid’s meal and fried shrimp was good, but the pizza and Korean stir fry weren’t that good (which makes sense I suppose). But the descriptions on the menus didn’t really make it clear what you got. In our case, the fried shrimp literally just said “fried shrimp” (yes it said that in both English and Japanese) so we had no idea that when we were ordering a side of fries to go with that, it was an extra side of fries and that the shrimp came with fries and multiple sauces (which is good when looking at the dish in general, but not in this context). The point is that the menu seems to be a bit unclear, a problem that we haven’t had at any other place thus far. It isn’t a huge issue, but it’s still an issue nonetheless.
TLDR: The atmosphere is superb, but the service was bad as we were basically just ignored and the food was nothing to write home about. So although the atmosphere was good, I can’t justify anything more than 2 stars, especially when there are other options readily available. But if you just want the...
Read moreVisiting the "Rainforest Cafe" is one of our traditions when at any Disney theme park. However, I am not sure how I feel about keeping up that tradition after our last experience. My husband and I were seated at a table for two tucked away behind the fish tank. It was odd that we'd be seated here as the rest of the restaurant was basically open, but we didn't think it was that big a deal until about 10 minutes to 15 minutes later. It was pretty clear that the waiter forgot about us. In fact, it wasn't until they seated another couple nearby us that we even saw a staff member who we had to flag down and they then had to call over our waiter. Unfortunately, the experience didn't improve. When our waiter came over he immediately took the new couple's order and we had to flag him down to take our order. There was an appetiser, cocktails and our meals. We then watched the aforementioned "new couple" receive their entire meal as you might expect to see it served. Water, cocktails, appetiser and meal before we were ever visited again. All of the items were put on our tablet at once, save for water which was delivered only after they had taken the plates away. Although the food was alright I can't help but feel like the entire experience was a bit tainted by the service we received. When you're in the Tokyo Disney Resort customer service is second to none. . . . so when something like this happens it really stands out. Although the food was good I can't say that I...
Read moreAbout 20 minutes to be seated on a Sunday afternoon, which was fine. Seated in an area that was near a fish tank and clearly visible to staff. We ordered our meals and drinks, and about 10 minutes later our side menu item was delivered with nothing else. About 30 minutes after that, after an inquiry or two later, our drinks were delivered. 10 Minutes after that, so about 50 minutes after ordering my meal arrived but not my partners which arrived about 30 minutes later.
Prior to this we made several inquiries to the staff about the whereabouts of meals / drinks, the staff would leave or outright tell us to wait for their attention and then nothing would happen for 10+ minutes. This is crazy in any restaurant, let alone one in Japan where service is usually fantastic even in cheaper chains like Gasto or Saizeriya.
Anyway, a great staff member ended up arriving and taking good care of us at this point. My partner's meal ended up coming about 30 minutes after mine and we were apologized to by her meal price being refunded and some free soup for the both of us. This staff member was great and without here this would be the lowest possible rating since the other staff actually actively ignored us at times.
I will not be going here again any time soon. The prices are expensive for the food are expensive as is, combined with poor service from the earlier staff I would actively recommend someone go to the nearby TGIF, or similar restaurant nearby rather...
