'Ello chaps,
Tokyo Disneyland is a resort property consisting of several hotels, and two theme parks.
The resort is owned and operated by Oriental Land Company as part of a licensing deal with the Walt Disney Company.
For 'Disney adults', Tokyo will certainly exceed all expectations, but for non affinity Disney fans, Disneyland is nice, but nothing that blows your socks off. The Disney parks in Tokyo are certainly better than all of Disney's parks worldwide, but still feel something is missing from the experience.
The most critical issue, especially for foreign visitors, is that there is absolutely NO wifi available anywhere. With no ticket windows at the park, and requirement to purchase tickets online, this means foreign visitors must have access to cellphone data service to access the Disney app to purchase tickets, Genie+, etc. I'm still surprised that in such a high tech society, the Disney properties did not have broad wifi avaialble.
Disneyland Tokyo has many of the traditional attractions found at Disneyland (Anaheim, USA) while Tokyo DisneySea has a few similar attractions (Tower of Terror) and many unique attractions (Journey to the Middle of the Earth). Overall the attractions, such as Tower of Terror, are far more tame than what you will find in the U.S. However, the technology and overall experience of attractions are better than U.S. parks. Beauty & the Beast for example, is phenomenal by Disney standards. It's very much like Ratatouille (at EPCOT in Florida and DLand Paris) but without the 3D features of Ratatouille. Beauty & the Beast - technology wise - is what Ratatouille should be (which can leave you feeling nauseous). B&B attraction in Tokyo is top notch in every aspect.
If you're looking to make the most of the day, it's worth paying for the Genie+ jump the line program, but note there are limitations on how many you can purchase in a day.
There is a variety of food that can be found throughout the parks -- including popcorns with all sorts of flavors (roast beef, curry, black pepper, etc.), and at costs that are a fraction of the food prices at Disney parks in the U.S.
Overall I have to give the parks at Disney Tokyo 3 stars out of 5. They offer great variety and are worth a day or two if you've already explored all there is to see in...
Read moreWorst decision ever. Disney Magic? More like Disney Nightmare! It was my first and probably last time at Disneyland. I bought two tickets in advance which cost 7900yen per person and we went on a weekday (thursday).
It was the Donald special, my favorite character, and they had ONE meet and greet spot with a constant waiting time of 70-100min and more starting at 9am. Various attractions with waiting times between 60-130min and sometimes even more. The attractions were just sad, I expected a lot more fun and love for details but it was pretty boring and often not better but longer than a carneval attraction in germany.
If you want a premium access you may pay an amazing 1500-2500yen PER PERSON AND ATTRACTION OR PARADE! Also premium access isn't always a lot faster and the premium SEATING PLACES for parades were a designated area on the GROUND! 5000yen for two people for third row seats on the ground!
Also the disney app was constantly crashing and had problems to load and show the current waiting times while being in the park. It was fine before.
The parades were really good and the employees and disney characters were sweet and friendly, probably the only good point. Still everything took forever. The amount of people inside disneyland was extreme. All the announcements were mostly in japanese not english. I would have hoped for a few more english announcements. The employees at least switched to english and explained certain things. The waiting lines didn't have much interesting decorations which is sad with the long waiting times. In 12hours, if you can enter at 9am, you can only do a few attractions and maybe a parade if you buy an additional premium pass here and there which will fast exceed the price you paid for your tickets. The alternative is to wait forever at attractions or safe a seat for parades hours in advance which A LOT of people did. They knew the parade route by heart.
A few attractions were also not available maybe cause of maintenance or other reasons who knows. The Europapark in germany is a lot better organized and you have more attractions and shows to enjoy for your money. But of course it doesnt have the Disney...
