I have been to this restaurant several times in the past, and this time we visited on a special day to celebrate my family's birthday. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst memory of my visit, so I decided to write about it here.
This time, we had the standard nomi-hodai plan that included all-you-can-drink drinks in addition to the meat, and with the standard plan, we had the option to choose between two kinds of red wine. When my family was leaving the table, I was asked to order a red wine, but I lost track of which one, so when the lady who came to take our order asked me, I pointed to one of the options, the Cabernet Sauvignon, and asked for the "Cab".
There was a strange feeling when I ordered, so I thought (maybe I didn't get through), and I rephrased, "Cabernet, please," but I didn't stop to think about it that much.
However, one of my family members who was not at the table when I ordered came back and said, "I don't like the waitress here. They were saying things like this in a loud voice that could be heard out front.”
I did my best to reproduce what she said, and she said, "The customer at the back of the table called the cabernet 'cab', and it gave me goose bumps lol."
My family didn't know it was me, but of course I knew immediately that she were talking about me.
From then on, I could no longer taste the meat, although I had enjoyed it up to that point.
It may be true that it was rare to call Cabernet “Cab” in Japan, so I could understand why people didn't get it, but even if I am wrong, I don't think I will be ridiculed or humiliated.
I lived for many years near the Napa Valley wine region, so it was natural for me to call it that, and I even thought it would be easier for people who work in the food service industry (and even for myself) if I abbreviated the difficult-to-pronounce word "Cabernet Sauvignon" as such.
I was offended by the whole thing and didn't feel comfortable leaving it as it was, so I called the manager and told him what had happened.
Of course, he apologized. Later, as an apology, I was offered a paid anniversary plate if there was a birthday person. It would have been fine either way, but the person being celebrated said, "I don't want to be celebrated with that.” Then, the next time we would visit the restaurant, we could be offered a free all-you-can-drink for the number of guests. However, there was little chance that we would return to the restaurant, so we declined that offer as well, and was finally given a free all-you-can-drink offer for that day. (We did pay for all the food and drinks except for the all-you-can-drink fee.)
Personally, I was very disappointed, of course, and it is true that there are restaurants that don't fit each preference, but even taking into consideration the location of Ikspiari and the quality of the food, it was not the kind of service that one should receive at a restaurant where the unit price per customer exceeds 5,000 yen.
This is why I decided to post this comment for future visitors.
For the record, I think the service and quality of the food is good, except for certain people, based on the fact that I have already been to this restaurant repeatedly.
I will not visit here again, but I hope they will improve, because this is a type of business where a single service at the front table can cause a huge opportunity loss, no matter how high the...
Read moreFood is good but the service is very bad. Almost all of the staff has a bad attitude. Not one smiled like they didn't really want to serve us. When they carry the meat they would pass our table many times and not make eye contact as if we didn't exist. Even though we paid extra for wagyu it wasn't really worth it because they only brought it to our table twice. There were three tables that got the birthday cake, we didn't get it and when we asked they said it should be reserved ahead. Even though I stated in the reservation that it was for a birthday celebration. It wasn't worth it going here. I had a much better experience in Rio Grande Yokohama a year ago. Never coming back...
Read moreAwesome experience five stars highly recommend this place. We brought our family here and the food is very good and the service is also very good. The people who work here are very friendly. There are many different meat options to choose from and they have a great selection of salad and side dishes on the buffet line. I wish I had more room in my stomach to fit more food it was so delicious. We will definitely be back here the next time we visit this area. I am going sleep well with this amazing meal in my belly. Thank you so much. Jun Silva was an...
