Osaka-ya Eel fishing — Restaurant in Wakayama

Unagi-tsuri Osaka-ya was an amazing experience. I have never seen a restaurant that offers the opportunity to fish unagi (fresh water eel) and have it cooked on the spot! My friend and I caught two unagi, and chatted with the owner—extremely friendly and good at English—as he barbecued our meal. We ended up eating our unagi as unagi-don, on rice. The flavour was unlike any fish I have ever tasted. There was no unpleasant fishiness, the unagi melts in your mouth, and a sweet sauce applied while barbecuing maintains a nice balance with the smokey, charred flavour.
