We stayed here during our family trip to Japan , exploring the area south of Osaka, Kyoto. Wakayama is a place to go to that will be less crowded compared to Osaka and Kyoto - Nara especially. Tsukiji hostel is well located centrally in Wakayama city and was a good location for us to set forth and explore Wakayama and our next stops down south. The room we stayed in were large and clean. Comfortable common areas for us to prepare meals with the amenities all well prepared. First thing that you will experience as you check in is that you will be well briefed on the hostel arrangements and lots of info to help you navigate and find areas of interest. We had a number of meals prepared and enjoyed here in the hostel . Hiroko-san and her husband who runs the place, provide great service to the guests including providing us a lift from the train station . Hiroko-san took time after check in and made sure that she helped us with any questions and information that we might need to make our stay comfortable. She also personally made sure that we found the laundry place and was available on phone to guide us through operation of the laundromats and checked in on us and made sure we were not lost. Of course she also provided us with hints on where to eat and get stuff that we might need. The location itself is convenient and near to family mart and Don Quixote store (donki) . We could also easily walk to nearby places for food. As we were renting a car, there is a public car park that you can park your car if needed. However Horiko-san and her husband would pick up their guests and there is no difficulty at all to get to the hotel. Thank you for your hospitality and being part of our memorable experience during our enjoyable...

The owner is very attentive and helpful - from the basic guidance on where to eat, where to go sightseeing to very kind attention about my sunburned skin condition, and treatment from contact with jellyfish. Owner-san kindly picked me up from the station, so my very first day started with pleasant talk and no stress on finding the bus stop or hostel. The area inside is very clean, shower rooms are definitely renovated not that long ago and always kept dry to prevent mold. The toilet looks oldy a bit, but yet clean. They have a small kitchen with coffee, tea, and teapot always available. I stayed in the room with bunk beds and it was spacious, had a desktop PC, bed light, and very nice makeup mirror with extremely bright light. The mattress is absolutely comfortable, but the bed itself is a little bit short, narrow, and low (if you're on a lower level). I'm just 164, but few times at night I woke up because bunched into the bed frame with my legs 😂 and when I was sitting on the bed, I had to be careful about my head. There is nothing wrong or inconvenient...
Read moreA wonderful memorable first visit to Japan! This was our first visit and Hiroko and Kazu was so kind and offered to pick us up from the station. Upon check-in, Hiroko and Kazu sat down with us and gave us wonderful recommendations with lots of maps and travel information and tips! They also went the extra mile to give us a local bar experience that was delicious and amazing!
The location is conveniently located between two major station lines (JR and Nankai Rail). It is also near a shopping street and convenience store - great for picking up breakfasts on the go!
This room we stayed was a larger room on the second floor. We stayed in December and the room was nicely furnished with lots of towels, hangers, and a comfy mattress. The best part of the room was the hot carpet which was amazing to sit on after a long day of walking around the city.
There is a small kitchenette which is well equipped. The hostel had four showers so we didn't have any issues with sharing. Everything was very tidy and we are very happy with...
