The vibe and service was immaculate. I also got two cocktails that were great. We got carne asada ( that would have been pretty good if they didn’t add random vegetables and balsamic vinaigrette to it), guacamole ( that was good but the chips served with it were glistening with oil), steak fajitas ( that just about came out raw), patillo of salmon (that was literally raw), and platillo of quesadilla con pollo( decent). I think maybe it should be made clear that this is Latino inspired food because as a Mexican I can’t say that anything besides maybe the guacamole was Mexican. I saw Peruvian, Japanese, and other nationalities represented in the food so the restaurant name was a bit misleading. The salsas were interesting. I would say they were almost a bit sweet and when I asked if perhaps there was a spicy salsa, they mixed habanero powder into the pico de gallo (after I specifically rejected any habanero powder to the waitress ). It tasted fine at first but then the powder caught up to my taste buds and was no longer enjoyable. There has to be a salsa in between “sweet” and “burn a hole in your stomach”. Also, there were no corn tortillas or beans served with dishes that are traditionally served with those items. Can I suggest maybe a Mexican advisor to the menu if you insist on being called a Mexican restaurant? I really appreciated that the staff tried to speak Spanish though! I thought it was a lovely touch. Good effort over all but I can’t say it is being...
Read moreThough the restaurant is called Margarita, we had surprisingly good non-alcoholic drinks to start our meal, due to restrictions during the State of Emergency, though that has ended at the time of this writing. The staff also seated customers as far apart as possible, making it more comfortable to enjoy the food at a leisurely pace, without the usual worries of a packed restaurant.
My partner and I went for lunch, had a large spacious table to ourselves, and enjoyed entirely too much food at a fairly reasonable price for Mexican food in Yokohama (or Japan for that matter).
The menu is quite varied (if not a bit all-over-the-place, with options from not only Mexico but throughout South America) with highlights being the tacos and the fajitas. I was excited to see refried beans on the menu, which are often missing from Mexican restaurants in Japan—and at only ¥300!—but they ended up being the only disappointing part of the order, as they were mostly whole, vaguely mashed pinto beans, all somehow cooked to a different texture…but hey, only ¥300, so what can you do?
The staff was friendly, but not constantly hovering, the food was (mostly) well-prepared and didn't take long to arrive, and we didn't feel rushed to leave. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area, and hopefully I'll be able to enjoy a proper margarita with my chips...
Read moreCOMEDOR DE MARGARITA is highly recommended. Good food! Good service! Extra tortillas!! The restaurant is busy.....even on weeknights. A reservation is highly recommended.
I went in with somewhat low expectations given TexMex food in Japan in general...and was happily surprised by my experience. Menu & drinks selection was good...and service was friendly, yet professional. Servers were quick to respond. It was peak dinner rush so our order (taco platter) took a bit of time to arrive, but it was time spent enjoining margarita's, chips & salsa. The taco platter was enough for two people and the best part..... extra tortilla at no additional cost! That does not happen at other TexMex food restaurants in Japan that I have been to....so bonus points for COMEDOR DE MARGARITA!!
Viva la COMEDOR...
