This is not a Hilton but öerhaps the very confused imagination that Ken Corp might have of a Hilton.
Special Warnings: Hilton Honors Elite members - don't expect anything you would enjoy from other Hiltons in Japan. Nobody will know that you are Elite. No breakfast for business travelers with meetings in Tokyo No sleeping in on weekends - breakfast closes at 9:30 am.
This hotel is part of the K Arena complex, a business of Ken Corp, Tokyo's dominant realtor and property management conglomerate. It is styled much more like a Hyatt not like a Hilton. Genuinly Hilton seem only to be the labels on the facade, the napkins, etc. and the shampoo brand.
That's about it.
Let's start with Hilton frequent customers:
There is no elite desk at the front desk - all have to get into the same line. HH status in not only not recognized but more treated like a disease "Since you are Platinum member we must give you breakfast coupons for the real restaurant". At no other occasion but check in does anybody look at one's loyalty. All Japanese Hilton hotels have designated lounge and restaurant seating for Gold and Platinum members. Here the staff doesn't know and or dosen't care. After 10 days of stay neither the exec lounge staff nor the front desk staff will know your name and management doesn't seem to exist. Room assignments also appear disconnected from Hilton patronage. This hotel has 25 floors we were offered the choice of 8 or 11, upgrades were not even mentioned.
Being located in the K arena complex, overnight Hilton customers don't seem to be the priority of the bell desk. At arrival the bell staff was more concerned with managing the taxi line for people coming from a concert in the arena next door than helping us with 8 pieces of luggage obviously checking in for a long stay.
The lounge product is substandard. There is a pittyfull offerring of sundrys for happy hour but no warm food, sandwiches, salads etc like with all other Hilton products in Japan. And the staff is almost hostile offering no attention whatsoever. Expect to be kicked out at 8:00 pm sharp.
The breakfast hours are incompatible with both business and pleasure. 7:00 to 9:30 everyday. To make it to meetings in Tokyo during the week one would need to get on the road at 6:30 and removing the food at 9:30 am on a weekend is extremely inhospitable.
Lastly, the parking garage must have been built with yellow plate box cars in mind. Your customers just don't drive that kind of car. By the look of it at least same of the slots could be widend by relocating fire extinguishers or assigning a different section of the garage that has more space to hotel customers.
The positive:
XX01 has a really nicel floor pla: the bed sleeps very well. The bath is great with double wide tub and hans grohe hardware.
If you only need a quiet room and have no Tokyo appointments, this might work well.
The walk over to Yokohama station through the Nissan HQ is mostly...
Read moreThe Hilton is a good hotel located close to shopping and a short walk from shin-takashima train station, 15 mins from Yokohama train station. |It is spotlessly clean, and the staff are extremely helpful. ||The rooms are large by western standards, huge by Japanese standards. ||I want the toilet in my own home. It's the best one I've seen anywhere, and the shower was almost the highlight of my son's trip. He was sad to leave it. ||The lighting in the bathroom was fantastic. There are enough coat hangers and drawers, if you remove the random items that are placed in the drawers. There is a safe and a fridge. ||The beds are so comfortable, BUT - and this is what bring this hotel down from five stars to three - the beds smell strongly of stale sweat. |My son and husband couldn't smell it as they don't have a good sense of smell, but I really could. Strongly. Every time I'd think, "Oh I'm making it up, it can't be that bad" I'd get a whiff of the bed and "Oh. Nope. It really is."|I asked the front desk to change the pillow and quilt and either they didn't, or they did and all the quilts and pillows smell that bad. ||Note to hotel: Not only sheets, but pillows and quilts must be washed on a regular basis. I cannot overemphasize to you how important this is. The scent was really disturbing, and I dreaded going to bed every night. It is no fun sleeping in someone else's stale sweat. ||And it wasn't mine...I smelled it before I even got in the bed. |||No laundry facilities on site. No laundromats nearby. About $50/day to have the hotel clean your clothes. We ended up hand washing our clothes, and bought a little fan to facilitate the drying. ||The breakfast was an absolute highlight. We LOVED it, and would get excited each morning. It was a huge buffet with many many different dishes. Absolutely worth the money, and helps you begin the day with a full and happy stomach. ||We went to the dinner buffet but can't recommend it. The choices were much much fewer and it was all pretty meh. ||All the staff were absolutely delightful. ||The Anpaman children's museum is right next door. It was ridiculous cute to walk by every morning and see the excited children. |There is a Lawson's down the stairs from the hotel. |Just across the road is an OK store with Hama Sushi - recommended - and also a grocery store. ||Overall, if you don't have a strong sense of smell, an absolutely...
Read moreI booked a twin deluxe room as a Hilton diamond member and was upgraded to a premium room. Nothing amazing but a standard upgrade. I’ve read about a policy of no suites for diamond members on here but I didn’t ask regarding this. The room itself was really nice, clean, and new. It was really nice to see a fresh interior as the Hilton Tokyo rooms feel a bit worn in comparison. ||The hotel is a bit of a walk from Yokohama Station. Shin-Takeshima Station is only marginally closer and I would consider taking a taxi from Yokohama Station if I have luggage. The hotel has a bit of a strange layout. What appears to be the main entrance goes up to a long hall that serves as the lobby that leads to an actual tower where the rooms are. The hotel restaurant requires taking the elevator down, walking down a hall, and taking a different elevator or stairs down one floor to the restaurant entrance. There’s a small door that requires a key to open for direct access to the room elevators from the street. Not a debilitating layout but it just seems uncoordinated. ||The hotel does feature an executive lounge that requires a key to get in. As others have pointed out, while there is breakfast service in the morning in the lounge there is no hot food the rest of the day so don’t plan on having a light meal here in the evening during cocktail hour. ||I actually really liked the breakfast buffet in the main hotel restaurant and this is the first time at a Hilton where I would prefer the restaurant over the lounge 100% of the time. They featured some Hawaiian breakfast items like Portuguese sausage and malasadas so this became my favorite Hilton breakfast service in Japan. ||This location is typically the most affordable of Hilton’s portfolio in the Greater Tokyo Area. I think the product is worth the price of admission. Affordable, good breakfast, and nice new rooms. The experience is limited by the strange layout, substandard executive lounge, and a bit of a walk from the closest train station. I remain of the opinion that Yokohama is pleasant and affordable however I think the distance to central Tokyo is too much for any tourists looking to commute daily. I can see myself staying again if I want some relaxing nights at a Hilton away from the hustle and...
