Two words to summarise my long essay below: disappointed and unpleasant.
-Expectation My friend visited Bohemia 3 years ago which left him a really good memory, so he was excited to bring me again when we finally got a chance to travel to Jersey. We stepped in with a high expection for this Jersey's only Michelin restaurant.
-Food We ordered tasting menu and everything went OK firstly (although nothing really special and bit salty overall). Things changed with the last main which is the Sirloin Beef and short rib roll. My friend tasted the beef first and he said he was impressed by the natural aromas of beef itself. Then I ate mine with no flavour at all so I questioned like how do you get that from? As I was bit full that time and wanna leave some space for dissert, I offered to give half of my beef to my friend. Then the funny thing came, it turned out these two beef definitely got two different flavors, my one was absolutely plain!! We were so shocked how can a one Michelin star restaurant got food so inconsistent?? Then the short rib roll just put our shock to another level- it's literally a salt volcano. When we put it into our mouth, It's essentially like a hundred pounds of salt broke out from a volcano- hope this helped everyone draw a picture how salty it is.
I guess we lost our last bit patience and expection there. And no surprise, the desserts came with nothing special which I felt like I could got in any dessert shop elsewhere- pure sweet with no other layer and I left nearly my whole last dessert untouched as not gonna waste my calories there.
Plus: it's my first time that I ordered two whole big bottles of water during 2.5 hour eating as I had to drink a lot after every dish.
-Service Overall up to the standard, people are professional and performed their service, but that's it. They did their work and walked away, I can't see the enthusiasm or welcoming that I can see in other michelin restaurants. Same as the food, performed the duty but just lack of a real love. When you don't enjoy, how can you actually make your guest enjoy and love it?
-Conclusion Will never come again for sure. After visiting more than 10 michelin restaurants, I guess this is the only one I sincerely think it's not worth it!...
Read moreWe had high expectations of this restaurant and were excited to go, given its high ratings and the Michelin star it holds.
My first surprise was the fact that the menu you receive in the restaurant is not the same menu as advertised on their website. Which is not very professional but something that I was willing to oversee since i was excited to try the cuisine regardless. I wanted to choose the 7-course Tasting menu and my partner was curious to try the 6-course Surprise menu, as we thought these would perfectly depict the Chef's style of cooking and the ingredients used. It came as a surprise that ordering two different menus for the same table is not allowed in this restaurant. I was extremely disappointed and my excitement level dropped drastically...they could have been honest from the start and informed us prior to us spending time looking throughout the whole menu, reading the dishes, etc. Never heard about this practice in any restaurant, let alone a Michelin starred restaurant.
We chose the 3-course in the end (instead of leaving, which would have been better to be honest). Most of the dishes lacked creativity and a wow-factor. The presentation was nice, a slight effort was made towards the attention to details and overall aspect of the plate but that is definitely not enough to sustain a Michelin star.
The amuse-bouche had a good taste but it was impossible to eat as it was extremely salty. The beef tartar was too spicy (overwhelming peppery taste) and the pieces were uneven. The foie gras cream is tasty and beautifully plated (as most of the dishes). My fish was cooked nicely however the garnishes were extremely bland and unimaginative. The veal was good. Pre-dessert was a very strange and unpalatable mixture of ingredients. Dessert was alright, nothing to leave a lasting impression or anything you would die to try again
It was a great way to ruin an anniversary night (which no one acknowledged even though my partner informed them prior) as well as to leave with a very bad taste in our mouths (literally and...
Read moreTerrific food but one of the starters, I think the mixed seed lavosh, has the fatal flaw of being way too hard on the bite. I think its a big big problem tbh. It put a critical note on the rest of the experience because I had to resort to finishing the other guests food because their teeth werent up to the challenge which is incredible really for a Michelin level place.
Another issue unless Ive misunderstood is that you cannot mix the menus, as in you cant have one guest order the tasting menu and the others the four course a la carte which is disappointing if you have people with different tastes. Im not sure I got to experience the best Bohemia has to offer which is a shame.
The dressed jersey crab dish is really quite spectacular and I can say its easily the best dish Ive had whilst visiting Jersey for the first time. Unfortunately it blew the venison dish that followed out of the water which was a bit of a disappointment for the main. The dish was clearing trying to do lots of things to impress however the consistency was not there I felt between the textures of the meat and the selection of squashes letting the sauce and accompanying blue cheese gel down. It's a shame the lamb saddle was not on the menu instead I felt as it will have likely been a much safer option for a main course, Id leave dishes like the venison menu to tasting where you have room for more experimental dishes once youve gotten the wow factor out of the way first.
Everything else as you can expect was wonderful apart from the above blemishes. Id definitely recommend a visit but there are things to be improved for sure.
Bit of a surprise I can be so critical about such a highly rated place. I hope the...
