Jaipur Restaurant Jersey — Restaurant in St. Helier

OCT 2018 Good food! Terrible service...rude owner. I come to Jersey for work and this is my 4th Trip here. Really liked the convenient location of Jaipur restaurant and the service used to be good. Food is good, but not great! Being of Indian origin, would also visit this restaurant with intent to support it with my business. But had terrible experience today when I visited late with a friend. We were working late and already had dinner at work. But were hungry when we got done around 10:30 pm. So thought of getting something light to eat. Went to Jaipur with intent of having some appetizers. My friend who is local is not much familiar with Indian food. So I asked him if he would like Lassi. He never had one, so based on my description we decided to get one Mango Lassi each. The owner asked if we were ready to order food and we thought that Lassi would suffice, so we would not get any appetizers. Owner was very upset and told us that the place being a restaurant, one cannot come in just to have a drink. One has to order some food. Since he had already ordered Lassi for us, he said that we could sit at the bar and have Lassi. But he would not have entertained us if he knew we only came for a drink. He could have said all this in a good way, but was utterly rude and talking in a high tone. He also told us that since we were having Lassi, it was OK, but if it was alcohol, we could have not have it without food. His licensing would not allow it. Funny thing is that just few days ago while dinning at the place, I had seen a couple who came in for just alcohol, had it and went away. No food order was needed from them! Well, so much for thinking of supporting this restaurant! I would recommend Spice Cafe, which has the best tasting Indian Food and service is great!

Usually don’t write reviews but this one deserves it.. and not for a good reason.

First thing first.,it is not an Indian restaurant. Any restaurant spelling mutter “peas” as “motor is very likely not a Indian rather run by Bangladeshis. It should not be a problem if food reflects the quality and taste of Indian food.

Second, the staff is extremely rude. For some reason the moment we entered they were cold to us. Not sure if it is my brown skin they were not keen on serving to.. they were NOT polite any way. I can take bad food but rude staff is just not acceptable.

Third, the food is just average. We ordered tarka dal ( yellow lentils) and that was very bland. When I asked for some pickle or spice, I were told they don’t do pickle. Rather waiter made a face as if he was hearing pickle word for the first time. Shocking that they run Indian restaurants but don’t know what pickle is. If they thought I was asking for free, they could have asked and I was more than happy to pay.

RUDE STAFF! We were late coming into the restaurant admittedly BUT it was supposed to be open till 12 and this was only 10.30 and they rushed us all the way!! you wouldn't mind if the food was OK!! BUT the food was really poor i live in surrey which is quite expensive but this was twice the price for a poor quality food that I would never even consider using again! Food in Jersey is normally a good quality but i have found Indian restaurant very poor quality especially this one! I definitely would not recommend it! I did read some of the reviews and to be fair they mentioned how rude the staff were! In future I will take heed of what people say! But some of the good reviews makes me think that Obviously people who live in Jersey really don't know what a good curry...
