Ransoms Tearoom — Restaurant in St. Martin

Have been several times over the years and have always been happy with the food and service. However, on this occasion we were disappointed. The issues were as follows; *beef burger was rather dry, served in a chewy bun (why not brioche or similar?) *we were charged £2.50 per portion to swap regular chips for sweet potato fries which seems excessive. *when we ordered a cake for a dessert it arrived with cream as we were not given the option of ice-cream as per the menu. *we also ordered a piece of cake at £6.95 to take away (which was nicely packed), however it seemed expensive for the "standard" size piece compared to the huge slice (plenty for 2 people) that Ransoms used to serve. *finally whilst the staff were not exactly unfriendly they were only functionally polite, in contrast to the level of service we experienced on...

Oh dear Ransoms, what a disappointment our visit for Sunday lunch to your restaurant was today. It seemed to be far busier than your kitchen could cope with + we ended up waiting 1.5 hours for our main meals after arriving at 1pm. We were a party of 5. We asked 3 times if our order was getting sorted but were told ‘you had starters so that set things back’ . (This was only 1 tiny bowl of olives + 1 portion of garlic bread). The tablecloth was sticky + we only got asked once for a drinks order. The waiter was rather jokey about the fact that he brought me the wrong order after waiting for so long. Ordered afternoon teas on Mother’s Day - one was vegan - more than 48 hours ahead as per the website. Got told as soon as I arrived there was no vegan scones. Had to ask what would be done / given in place of it. Ordered for 11 didn’t get It until 11:30 - got home to discover the sandwiches were tomato and margarine, cucumber and margarine and get this, cucumber, tomato, lettuce and margarine. Completely tasteless and inedible. Had to add my own ingredients at home. - Pretty sure they’d forgot my order and didn’t even have the ability to be honest and instead gave me a poor substitute.
