Juno has long been regarded as one of the best bakeries in Copenhagen and I can definitely see why. Juno is up there, but I don’t necessarily I think it lives up to the hype.
I tried both of their buns, the sesame and seed with butter and cheese, as well as their rhubarb cream bun. The other people accompanying me also had the buns, and for pastries they had the pistachio croissant and almond croissant. We shared everything.
Their buns are great. They’re a bit different from many other bakeries, slightly soft on the outside, chewy and moist on the inside. This is opposed to many other bakeries where their buns have a slightly crustier outside, combined with the chewy inside. I am not competent enough to comment on what the difference is from a baking technique standpoint, however from a taste standpoint I think it’s personal preference. I like both a lot. Junos buns are also slightly bigger than your average bakery. They’re great. Butter is not homemade, and cheese is gammel knas but let’s stick with the actual baking stuff.
The rhubarb bun is what brings it down to four stars for me. It was quite underwhelming. The rhubarb filling and vanilla cream was wonderful and tasty, but the bun itself was not that impressive. The outside of the bun was a bit on the drier side as if it had been baked a minute or two too long, and in general it felt like I was eating an overpriced Berliner where you substitute the jam with rhubarb and cream. Not very impressive.
I had a bite of the croissants and I liked them. Great caramelization on both products.
For the hype, I believe they should be held to a higher standard. Whipping their own butter and nailing the seasonal products is a must. I will come back another time to try their other pastries and perhaps edit my review, but based on this visit having tried four different items I really think the line is not worth it. Bageriet B as well as Rondo which are both nearby can definitely compete in the...
Read moreWe saw this place on Tiktok and didn’t even save it to our list as there was no way we were going to wait in line for a bakery. We then went to a bunch of different places and were always left just a little disappointed. We then decided to check out Juno. We came on a Saturday at around 11.30 and waited in line for about 30 minutes. The line goes around the building and it’s really nice because you can see how they are making the pastries through the window. I would say the only minus is that you can’t really see their offer before it’s your time to order so you have to decide on the spot. There are some tables outside and surprisingly they were quite empty.
We tried the vanilla custard pastry (it was incredible, the cream was really good and even just the dough was really delicate). We also got the almond croissant and omg was it delicious! I hate marzipan and usually almond croissants just taste like marzipan but this one had a pure almond nutty flavour which was simply delightful! We also got the strawberry brioche croissant and it was incredibly crispy and fresh, with just the right amount of sweetness. We also got a BMO with the seeded bread and it was such a salty great bread.
At this point in our trip we were already used to the prices in Copenhagen but this bakery shocked us! For 3 pastries, a BMO and a piece of milk bread we spent under 25€.
The only minus is they only serve filter coffee but I can imagine that if they served actual coffee, the queue would move much slower, so I actually have no complaints...
Read moreStill the best bakery in Copenhagen. Absolutely perfected pastries and great sourdough bread.
All of the products are delicious and done with wonderful ingredients. Greatly tuned by stilled bakers to an absolute perfection.
The cookie selection gives me unfortunately big questions! Why is it in the range? It feels unrefined and machine produced. Not in a different category to any supermarket bought cookie. All very similar in flavour. Sad!
About the visit: As a customer you’re cueing through the front yard, enter a few steps into the house where you can get a glimpse into the bakery and end on a small counter where you see the offer and better quickly make your choice to not hold up the many customers behind you.
You can feel that this bakery is focused on the products and not on the customer service. Everything is takeaway packed and if you still decide to sit in the yard to eat your still warm pastry: there are no chances to get your hands washed or even a chance for a bathroom.
Don’t get me wrong: I totally understand why you have decided to do so, but it is for me as a guest not very pleasant experience.
I would also recreate the counter Emil: reduce the volume of products and have a few item each showcased as a sample and serve the items from the trolleys. Today you are overwhelmed by a wall of glass as tall as 160cm and products piles, next to the sweet FOH trying to help you.
The staff is very helpful and firmly trained to do their best in the 30 seconds of...
