Трактиръ «Борщъ» — Restaurant in Almaty

I do have a soft spot for Russian and Ukrainian cuisine. For me, they represent a perfect example of comfort food. Previously this restaurant was our go-to spot for Eastern European food, and while the location we frequented has since closed, this network of restaurants might still be the best in town for that kind of food. Four years later, I didn't notice any significant price changes. However, portions got noticeably smaller, which is a reasonable strategy considering the growing costs of ingredients. If you ask me, I would also remove unnecessary and outdated food decorations and things like fancy paper napkins to cut down costs further. Other than that, the food is still good, and our lunch was pleasant. Many new dishes I'm interested in trying. And we were glad to find okroshka (cold Russian soup) with kvass, which proved to be not so easy anymore around Almaty. We were at the music store next door and hungry. We simply did a Google search for restaurant and maps recommended this one. I asked the man running the shop if it was good and he said very good! So, we went. The interior is very homey, like grandma's house. The food was delicious. My husband and I accidentally ordered basically the same dish but mine was pork and his was fish. It is very nice place to sit, calm down. It worth to visit for a talk with friends or business partners. Not so busy place - which is good to my opinion. Traditional Russian food with excelent value for money ratio. Service was very attentive and friendly. A bit noisy from the road to sit outside. Better to choose table inside - nice...
